operatingthemachineonslopes.Beforeyou
operatethemachine,reviewthesiteconditionsto
determinewhetheryoucanoperatethemachine
intheconditionsonthatdayandatthatsite.
Changesintheterraincanresultinachangein
slopeoperationforthemachine.
Avoidstarting,stopping,orturningthemachine
onslopes.Avoidmakingsuddenchangesin
speedordirection.Maketurnsslowlyand
gradually.
Donotoperateamachineunderanyconditions
wheretraction,steering,orstabilityisin
question.
Removeormarkobstructionssuchasditches,
holes,ruts,bumps,rocks,orotherhidden
hazards.T allgrasscanhideobstructions.
Uneventerraincouldoverturnthemachine.
Beawarethatoperatingthemachineonwet
grass,acrossslopes,ordownhillmaycause
themachinetolosetraction.
Useextremecautionwhenoperating
themachineneardrop-offs,ditches,
embankments,waterhazards,orother
hazards.Themachinecouldsuddenlyrollover
ifawheelgoesovertheedgeortheedge
cavesin.Establishasafetyareabetweenthe
machineandanyhazard.
Identifyhazardsatthebaseoftheslope.
Iftherearehazards,mowtheslopewitha
pedestrian-controlledmachine.
Ifpossible,keepthecuttingunitsloweredto
thegroundwhileoperatingonslopes.Raising
thecuttingunitswhileoperatingonslopescan
causethemachinetobecomeunstable.
BreakingintheMachine
Toensureoptimumperformanceoftheparking-brake
system,burnish(breakin)thebrakesbeforeuse.Set
theforwardtractionspeedto4mphtomatchthe
reversetractionspeed.(All8spacersmovedtothe
topofthemow-speedcontrol.)Withtheengineathigh
idle,proceedforwardwiththemow-speed-controlstop
engagedandridethebrakefor15seconds.Proceed
backwardatfullreversespeedandridethebrakefor
15seconds.Repeatthis5times,waiting1minute
betweeneachforwardandreversecycletoavoid
overheatingthebrakes.Anadjustmenttothebrakes
mayberequiredafterbreak-in;refertoAdjustingthe
ParkingBrakes(page45).
BleedingtheFuelSystem
Youmustbleedthefuelsystembeforestartingthe
engineifanyofthefollowingsituationshaveoccurred:
Initialstartupofanewmachine.
Enginehasceasedrunningduetolackoffuel.
Maintenancehasbeenperformeduponfuel
systemcomponents;i.e.,lterreplaced,separator
serviced,etc.
DANGER
Undercertainconditions,dieselfuelandfuel
vaporsarehighlyammableandexplosive.A
reorexplosionfromfuelcanburnyouand
othersandcancausepropertydamage.
Useafunnelandllthefueltankoutdoors,
inanopenarea,whentheengineisoffand
iscold.Wipeupanyfuelthatspills.
Donotllthefueltankcompletelyfull.
Addfueltothefueltankuntilthelevelis6
to13mm(1/4to1/2inch)belowthebottom
ofthellerneck.Thisemptyspaceinthe
tankallowsthefueltoexpand.
Neversmokewhenhandlingfuel,andstay
awayfromanopenameorwherefuel
fumesmaybeignitedbyaspark.
Storefuelinaclean,safety-approved
containerandkeepthecapinplace.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurfaceandensure
thatthefueltankisatleasthalffull.
2.Openthehood.
3.Opentheair-bleedscrewonthefuel-injection
pump(Figure30)witha12mmwrench.
