SteeringSubsystem
Thesteeringsubsystemcomponentsworktogethertocoordinatetheposition
ofthesteeringwheelwiththepositionoftherearcasterfork.TheRadius
DependantSpeedSystem(RDS)usessteeringpositioninformationfromthe
steeringsubsystemtocontrolthetractionandcuttingunitdrivesubsystems.The
steeringsubsystemandtractionsubsystemworktogethertosteerthemachine.
Therearwheel(steering)setsthedirectionwhilethetwofrontwheelsturnthe
machineusingtheRDS;refertoTractionSubsystem(page5–4)foradditional
information.
Thesteeringsubsystemconsistsofthefollowingcomponents:
•SteeringInputDevice:Connectedtothesteeringwheel,thedeviceconverts
steeringwheeldirectionandspeedofrotationinformationinotreciprocal
signals.BothsignalsaresenttotheSC7:Steeringmotorcontroller.The
twosignalsarepartofaredundantsteeringsafetycircuitinthecasethat
onesignalfails.T actilefeedback(controlledbyaPWMsignalfromtheT1:
primarycontroller)determinestheamountoffeedbacktheoperatorfeels
whileturningthesteeringwheel.Thisfeatureofthesteeringinputdevice
producesamorenaturalpowersteeringfeelfortheoperator.
•
•SC7:SteeringMotor:TheSC7:Steeringmotorisattachedtoareduction
gearboxandincludesanintegratedsteeringmotorcontroller.TheSteering
motorreceivesallofitsoperationcommandsfromthesteeringmotor
controller.Thesteeringmotorcontrollerinterpretssteeringpositionsensor
dataandbroadcaststheinformationviatheCANbustoSC5:Traction1
controllertomanagefrontwheelspeed,andtothesteeringinputdevice
todetermineoperatortactilefeedback.Thesteeringmotorcontrolleris
responsibleforreportingsteeringsubsystemfaultsfromthesteeringinput
device,steeringmotor,andsteeringpositionsensor.
•SteeringPositionSensor:Adualhalleffectsensorattachedtotherearwheel
casterforksendsreciprocalsignalstotheSC7:Steeringmotorcontroller.
Thetwosignalsarepartofaredundantsteeringsafetycircuitinthecasethat
onesignalfails.Forthesubsystemstofunctionproperly,thesteeringposition
sensormustbecalibratedforcenterposition,andforrangeofmotionby
usingtheInfoCenterService>Calibrationscreen.
