SafeOperatingPractices
Thisproductiscapableofamputatinghandsandfeetandofthrowing
objects.Alwaysfollowallsafetyinstructionstoavoidseriousinjury
ordeath.
Thismowerisdesignedforcuttingandmulchinggrassor,when
equippedwithagrassbag,forcatchingcutgrass.Anyuseforpurposes
otherthanthesecouldprovedangeroustouserorbystanders.
GeneralOperation
•Readthismanualcarefullybeforeoperatingthemower.Become
familiarwiththecontrolsandproperuseofthemower.Neverallow
childrenunder16yearsofagetooperatethemower.Neverallow
adultstooperatemowerwithoutproperinstructions.
•Theoperatorofthemowerisresponsibleforkeepingeveryone,
especiallychildrenandpets,awayfromareaofoperation.The
operatorisresponsibleforaccidentsorhazardsoccurringtoother
peopleortheirproperty.
•Thoroughlyinspectareawheremowerwillbeusedandremove
sticks,stones,wire,anddebristhatcouldbepickedupandthrown
bymower.Watchforforeignobjectswhilemowing.Objectsstruck
bythelawnmowerbladecancausesevereinjuriestopersons.
•Wearlongpantsandsubstantialshoes.Donotoperatemower
whilewearingopen-toedshoes,jewelry,looseclothingorwhen
barefoot.Useofrubberglovesandfootwearisrecommended
whenworkingoutdoors.
•Keepallguards,shields,safetydevices,grasscatcheroroptional
sidedischargechuteinplace.Repairorreplacedamagedparts,
includingdecals.Nevertamperwithsafetydevices.Checktheir
properoperationregularly.
•Themotorandbladearedesignedtostopwithin3secondsafter
releasingthecontrolbail.Ensurethatthecontrolbailfunctions
properlybeforeeachuseofmower.Ifthebladedoesnotstop
within3seconds,orifthereisagrindingorscrapingmetal-to-metal
noisewhenthecontrolbailisreleased,contactanAuthorizedToro
ServiceDealerforproper“On/Off”andbladebrakeadjustment
orreplacement.
•Beforeusing,alwaysvisuallyinspecttoseethattheblades,blade
fastenersandcutterassemblyarenotwornordamaged.Replace
wornordamagedbladesandfastenersinsetstopreservebalance.
•Onlyusethoseaccessoriesandattachmentsdesignedtobe
usedwiththisproduct.Useofanyaccessoryorattachmentnot
designedforthisproductmayincreasetheriskofinjury.See
instructionsforproperoperationandinstallationofaccessories.
WhileOperating
•Donotinsertkeyintoplugreceptacleuntilyouarereadytomow.
•Donotoperatemoweringaseous,explosiveatmospheres.Normal
sparkingofmotorcouldignitefumes.
•Startthemotorcarefullyaccordingtoinstructionsandwithfeet
wellawayfromtheblade.
•UseRightAppliance–Donotusemowerforanyjobexceptthat
forwhichitisintended.
•StayAlert–Watchwhatyouaredoing.Donotoperatemower
whentiredorundertheinuenceofdrugs,alcoholormedication.
•Bealertandturnmoweroffifchildrenenterthearea.
•Useextracarewhenapproachingblindcorners,shrubs,trees,or
otherobjectsthatmayobscurevision.
•Donotmowneardrop-offs,ditches,orembankments.The
operatorcouldlosefootingorbalance.
•Avoiddangerousenvironments.Neveroperatemowerinwet
grassordamplocations.Donotusemowerintherain.
•Alwaysmaintainsecurefooting.Keeparmgriponthehandle
andwalk;neverrun.Mowonlyindaylightoringoodarticiallight.
•Mowacrossthefaceofslopes;neverupanddown.Use
extremecautionwhenchangingdirectiononslopes.Donotmow
excessivelysteepslopes.Wearskidresistantshoesonslopes.
•Don’tOverreach–Keepproperfootingandbalanceatalltimes.
•Donotforcethemower.Itoperatesbestandsafestattheratefor
whichitwasdesigned.
•Alwayswearsafetyglassesoreyeshieldsduringoperationto
protecteyesfromforeignobjectsthatmaybethrownfromthe
machine.(Regulareyeglassesarenotsafetyglasses.)
•Alwayswearanapproveddustmaskwhenusingunitindusty
conditions.
