Carefullyexaminethebladeforsharpnessandwear,
especiallywheretheatandthecurvedpartsmeet
(Figure32A).Becausesandandabrasivematerialcan
wearawaythemetalthatconnectstheatandcurved
partsoftheblade,checkthebladebeforeusingthe
lawnmower.Ifyounoticeaslotorwear(
Figure32B
andFigure32C),replacetheblade;refertoRemoving
theBlade.

Awornordamagedbladecanbreak,andapiece
ofthebladecouldbethrownintotheoperator's
orbystander'sarea,resultinginseriouspersonal
injuryordeath.
•Inspectthebladeperiodicallyforwearor
damage.
•Replaceawornordamagedblade.
RemovingtheBlade
Grasptheendofthebladeusingaragorathickly
paddedglove.Removethebladenuts,theanti-scalpcup,
theaccelerator,andtheblade(Figure31).
SharpeningtheBlade
Filethetopsideofthebladetomaintainitsoriginal
cuttingangle(Figure33A)andinnercuttingedgeradius
(Figure33B).Thebladewillremainbalancedifyou
removethesameamountofmaterialfrombothcutting
edges.
