Adding Water to the Battery
IMPORTANT: Use only distilled water.
The best time to add distilled water to the battery is
just before you operate the machine. This lets the
water mix thoroughly with the electrolyte solution.
1. Clean the top of the battery with a paper towel.
2. Lift off the filler caps (Fig. 52).
3. Slowly pour distilled water into each battery cell
until the level is up to the lower part of the tube
(Fig. 52).
IMPORTANT: Do not overfill the battery
because electr
olyte (sulfuric acid) can cause
sever
e corr
osion and damage to the chassis.
4. Press the cell covers onto the battery.
5. Replace the battery shield.
IMPORTANT: Keep the battery shield in
place to protect the battery from heat.
6. Replace the front grill of the tractor, securing it
with the two previously removed screws and
washers (Fig. 51).
Removing the Battery
1. Disengage the power take off (PTO), set the
parking brake, lower the attachment lift, and turn
the ignition key to “STOP” to stop the engine.
Remove the key.
2. Remove the tractors front grill by raising the
hood and unscrewing the two screws and
washers securing it in place (Fig. 51). Close the
hood and remove the grill by pulling it out
toward you.
3. Remove the battery shield (Fig. 53).
4. Disconnect the negative (black) ground cable
from the battery post (Fig. 53).
5. Disconnect the positive (red) cable from the
battery post (Fig. 53).
6. Remove the battery by lifting it up, then pulling
it out (directly toward you) from the tractor.
IMPORTANT: Always hold the battery
vertical to avoid spilling battery acid.
