2. Stop the engine , remo v e the k ey , and w ait for
all mo ving par ts to stop before lea ving the
operating position.
3. R emo v e the belt co v ers .
4. Loosen the n ut securing the idler plate and
mo v e the idler plate to reliev e the belt tension
on the idler pulley ( Figure 47 ).
5. R emo v e the n ut, w asher and belt guide from
the rear leftside pulley .
6. R emo v e the mo w er belt from the belt guides
and remo v e the belt ( Figure 47 ).
7. Install the new mo w er belt around the mo w er
spindle pulleys , mo w er idler pulley , into the
belt guides , into rear idler ar m assembly , and
the clutc h ( Figure 47 ).
8. Install the belt guide with a w asher and n ut
onto the rear leftside pulley .
Note: Chec k the amount of twist in the belt
betw een the pulleys . Ensure it is only what is
specified in Figure 47 .

9. Adjust the belt tension, refer to Adjusting the
Mo w er Belt T ension.
10. Install the belt co v ers and close the latc hes .
Adjusting the Mower Belt
Tension
1. Diseng ag e the PTO , mo v e the motion control
lev ers to the neutral loc k ed position, and set
the parking brak e .
2. Stop the engine , remo v e the k ey , and w ait for
all mo ving par ts to stop before lea ving the
operating position.
3. Raise the mo w er to the transpor t position.
Important: Check the amount of twist
in the belt betw een the pulleys. Mak e sur e
it is onl y what is specified in Figur e 47 .
Important: Check and mak e sur e the
belt is installed into both the fr ont and r ear
belt guides ( Figur e 48 ).
4. Chec k the belt tension. T he spring loaded idler
center bolt needs to be near the top alignment
hole in left suppor t plate ( Figure 48 ).

5. If adjustment is required, loosen the idler plate
to adjust it ( Figure 49 ).
6. Inser t a ratc het or break er bar into the square
hole in the idler plate to adjust the tension
( Figure 49 ).
7. T o increase belt tension, rotate the ratc het or
break er bar to mo v e the fix ed idler until y ou
feel increased resistance and the spring-loaded
idler pulley stops mo ving ( Figure 49 ).
Note: Do not increase the belt tension
bey ond the point where the fix ed idler ar m
stops .
8. W hile holding the belt tension, tighten the
idler plate bolts that secure the idler plate
( Figure 49 ).
