A v er y small amount of mercur y is contained in
a her metically sealed body . T he steel switc h is
then potted in a hard e po xy in a plastic case . It is
unlik ely that the mercur y will ev er escape from the
enclosure . T hese high perfor mance and reliable
inexpensi v e switc hes are recyclable .
Mercur y is an impor tant and beneficial compound
but requires special care in handling and disposal.
W hen used and manag ed properly , mercur y is
not a threat to people or the en vironment. T his
infor mation is presented to users so that they are
a w are that these switc hes contain mercur y and will
apply sound disposal practices when these devices
reac h their nor mal end of life or are damag ed.
Disposing the Mercury Tilt Switch
Sev eral states ha v e passed la ws concer ning the
disposal of devices containing mercur y . In all the
remaining states it is advisable to follo w similar
procedures . T he la ws state that these sealed
devices contain mercur y and should not be placed
in the g arbag e until the mercur y is remo v ed and
reused, recycled or otherwise manag ed to insure
that it does not become par t of solid w aste or
w aters . Manag ement and disposal practices m ust
be within relev ant federal, state or local la ws .
R etur n the switc h to y our T oro dealer if it is faulty
and is being re placed or if the unit containing
the switc h is no long er operating and is being
scrapped. If the switc h is damag ed or brok en open
use extreme caution in handling . Call y our local
w aste manag ement authority or T oro Customer
Ser vice for instr uctions .
T he mercur y contained in the tilt s witch
is poisonous and exposur e to mercur y can
cause sev er e illness.
Nev er attempt to open or r epair the tilt
s witch.

Chec k the h y draulic fluid lev el:
Before the engine is first star ted.
After the first 8 operating hours .
After ev er y 25 operating hours .
Fluid T ype: Mobil 1 15W -50 synthetic motor oil or
equi v alent synthetic oil.
Important: Use oil specified or equi v alent.
Other fluids could cause system dama ge.
Hy draulic System Oil Capacity: 67 oz. (2.0 l)
Note: T here are tw o w a ys of c hec king the
h y draulic oil. One is when the oil is w ar m and one
is when the oil is cold. T he baffle inside the tank
has tw o lev els de pending if the oil is w ar m or cold.
1. P osition the mac hine on a lev el surface and set
the parking brak e .
2. Clean the area around filler nec k of h y draulic
tank ( Figure 55 ).

3. R emo v e the cap from the filler nec k. Look
inside to c hec k if there is fluid in the reser v oir
( Figure 55 ).
4. If there is no fluid, add fluid to the reser v oir
until it reac hes the cold lev el of the baffle .
5. R un the mac hine at lo w idle for 15 min utes to
allo w any air to purg e out of the system and
w ar m the fluid. R efer to Star ting and Stopping
the Engine in Operation , pag e 14 .
