Hy draulic fluid escaping under pr essur e
can penetrate skin and cause injur y .
• If h y draulic fluid is injected into the
skin it must be surgicall y r emo v ed
within a few hour s by a doctor f amiliar
with this type of injur y . Gang r ene
may r esult if this is not done.
• K eep body and hands a w ay fr om pin
hole leaks or nozzles that eject high
pr essur e h y draulic fluid.
• Use cardboard or paper to find
h y draulic leaks.
• Safel y r eliev e all pr essur e in the
h y draulic system bef or e perf or ming
an y w or k on the h y draulic system.
• Mak e sur e all h y draulic fluid hoses
and lines ar e in good condition and
all h y draulic connections and fittings
ar e tight bef or e appl ying pr essur e to
h y draulic system.
Replacing the Hydraulic Filters and
Oil
Chang e the h y draulic filter and oil:
• After the first 250 operating hours .
• Chang e yearly after the first 250 operating
hours .
1. Diseng ag e the PTO , mo v e the motion control
lev ers to the neutral loc k ed position and set
the parking brak e .
2. Stop the engine , remo v e the k ey , and w ait for
all mo ving par ts to stop before lea ving the
operating position.
Important: Do not substitute automoti v e
oil filter or sev er e h y draulic system dama ge
may r esult.
3. Locate the tw o filters , one under eac h
transmission and remo v e the filter guards .
4. Carefully clean the area around the filters . It is
impor tant that no dir t or contamination enter
the h y draulic system ( Figure 52 ).
5. Unscrew the filters and allo w the oil to drain
from the dri v e system ( Figure 52 ).
Important: Bef or e r einstalling new
filter s, appl y a thin coat of oil on the surf ace
of the filter s r ub ber seal.
6. Install the new filters cloc kwise until r ubber
seal contacts the filter adapter and then tighten
the filter an additional 3/4 to 1 full tur n.
7. R emo v e the v ent plug on eac h transmission
and fill through the h y draulic tank, when oil
comes out of v ent reinstall plug . T or que the
plugs to 180 in-lb (244 N ⋅ m).
8. Add oil until it reac hes the cold line on the
h y draulic tank ( Figure 51 ).
9. Raise the rear of mac hine up just enough
to allo w the dri v e wheels to tur n freely and
suppor t it with jac k stands .
Note: Ensure there is proper v entilation
when r unning the mac hine . Do not r un the
engine indoors or in an enclosed area without
proper v entilation. Ensure there is proper
v entilation when r unning the mac hine . Engine
exhaust contains carbon mono xide , whic h is
an odorless , deadly poison that can kill y ou.
10. Star t the engine and mo v e the throttle control
ahead to the 1/2 throttle position. Diseng ag e
the parking brak e .
11. With the b ypass v alv e open and the engine
r unning, slo wly mo v e the directional control in
both forw ard and rev erse 5 or 6 times .
12. With the b ypass v alv e closed and the engine
r unning, slo wly mo v e the directional control
in both forw ard and rev erse directions 5 to 6
times . Stop the engine and c hec k the oil lev el,
and add oil as required to the hot line .
13. R e peat items 11 and 12 as necessar y until all
the air is completely purg ed from the system.
W hen the transaxle operates at nor mal noise
lev els and mo v es smoothly forw ard and rev erse
at nor mal speeds , then the transaxle is purg ed.
Important: Do not change h y draulic
system oil (ex cept f or what can be drained
when changing filter), unless it is felt the oil
has been contaminated or been extr emel y
hot. Changing the oil unnecessaril y
could dama ge the h y draulic system by
intr oducing contaminates into the system.
