Servicing the Air Cleaner
Service Interval/Specification
Foam Element: Clean and re-oil after every 25 operating
hours, or yearly, whichever occurs first.
Paper Element: Replace after every 100 operating hours or
yearly, whichever occurs first.
Note: Service the air cleaner more frequently (every few
hours) if operating conditions are extremely dusty or
sandy.
Removing the Foam and Paper Elements
1. Disengage the power take off (PTO), set the parking
brake, and turn the ignition key to off. Remove the
ignition and Key choice keys.
2. Open the hood.
3. Clean around the air cleaner to prevent dirt from
getting into the engine and causing damage. Remove
the wing nut and air cleaner cover (Fig. 21).

4. Unscrew the nut and remove the cover, foam element
and paper element (Fig. 21).
5. Carefully slide the foam element off the paper element
(Fig. 21).
Cleaning the Foam Elements
1. Wash the foam element in liquid soap and warm water.
When the element is clean, rinse it thoroughly.
2. Dry the element by squeezing it in a clean cloth.
3. Put one or two ounces of oil on the element (Fig. 22).
Squeeze the element to distribute the oil.
Important Replace the foam element if it is torn or
worn.

Cleaning the Paper Element
1. Lightly tap the element on a flat surface to remove
dust and dirt (Fig. 23).
2. Inspect the element for tears, an oily film, and damage
to the rubber seal.
Important Never clean the paper element with
pressurized air or liquids, such as solvent, gas, or
kerosene. Replace the paper element if it is damaged or
cannot be cleaned thoroughly.

Installing the Foam and Paper Elements
Important To prevent engine damage, always operate
the engine with the complete foam and paper air cleaner
assembly installed.
1. Carefully slide the foam element onto the paper air
cleaner element (Fig. 21).
2. Place the air cleaner assembly into air cleaner base.
Slide cover onto rod and secure with nut (Fig. 21).
