andthegear/rangesetting.Sandvariesinmoisture
andcoarseness(sizeofgrain)whichaffectsthe
rate.Thesefactorsmustbetakenintoconsideration
whendecidingtheamountofsandrequiredforthe
application.T estasmallareatodecidethecorrect
amount.T oincreasetheapplicationrate,eitheropen
thegatetoahigherscalemarkorshifttheWorkman
vehicletoalowergear.
Note:Onvehicleswithserialnumbers240000001
andup,thesandapplicationratedecreaseswhen
youturnthevehicle.Avoidmakingsharpturnswhen
topdressing.
Toensureconsistentapplication,fromgreentogreen,
usethetachometerand/orhandthrottletomaintain
constantenginespeedwhiletopdressing.
WARNING
Tippingorrollingthevehicleonahillwill
causeseriousinjury.
Iftheenginestallsoryouloseheadwayona
hill,neverattempttoturnthevehiclearound.
Alwaysbackstraightdownahillinreverse
gear.
Donotbackdowninneutralorwiththeclutch
pressed,usingonlythebrakes.
Neveraddsideboardsorpanelstothetopof
thehoppertoincreasetheloadcapacity.The
additionalweightwillcausetippingorrolling
ofthevehicleandleadtoseriousinjury.
Donotdriveacrossahill:driveupand
downthehill.Avoidturningonahill.Do
notaccelerateordeceleratefast.Asudden
changeinspeedcaninitiateatipover.
SandPrecautions
Themachineisequippedwithaexiblegateedge
(Figure21)andaspringreleasemechanismtoreduce
thechanceofsandchunksorrocksgettinglodged
duringoperation.T oensurelongbeltlife,siftorcheck
thesandforrockswithsharpedgesthatmaydamage
conveyorbelt.

Operation
Youmayusethemachineincoldweather.With
certainlimitations,youmayusethemachinetoapply
asalt/sandmixtureonpavementforicecontrol.The
PVCconveyorbeltmaterialbecomesverystiffincold
weatherandrequiresmorepowertooperatebelt.The
lifeofthebeltisreducedbyapproximately50%when
operatedbelowtemperaturesof40°F .(5°C).
Important:Donotoperatethetopdresserduring
temperaturesof-7°C(20°F)orlower.
1.Increasethebelttensionbyadjustingspring
compressionto101mm(4inches);referto
TensioningtheConveyor-BeltChain(page21).
2.Runbeltbeforeloadingthehopperwithmaterial
toassurethatbeltsystemmovesfreely.
Important:Ifbelt/driverollerslip,damageto
beltorrollermayoccur.
Important:Beforeoperatingthemachineduring
warmweather,adjustthebelttensionto112mm
(4-7/16inches)springcompression.
