Function Description:

The TOTO Thermostatic Mixing Valve (TLE05701A) is designed to mix hot and cold water supplies to deliver a consistent, safe water temperature at the lavatory faucet. Its primary function is to prevent scalding by ensuring the maximum outlet water temperature does not exceed a set limit, typically 49 °C. The valve automatically adjusts the mix of hot and cold water to maintain the desired temperature, even if there are fluctuations in the incoming water pressure or temperature. It features inlets for hot (H) and cold (C) water supplies and an outlet for the mixed water, connecting to a controller and ultimately to the lavatory faucet. The valve requires the maximum outlet temperature to be set and adjusted by the installer to ensure safety.

Usage Features:

Temperature Adjustment: The valve allows for both maximum outlet temperature adjustment (installer-set) and user-level outlet temperature adjustment.
- Maximum Outlet Temperature Adjustment: This is a critical safety setting performed by the installer. It involves removing a screw and cap, pulling off the handle, and turning the handle counter-clockwise one notch to decrease temperature or clockwise one notch to increase temperature, then reinstalling the handle and securing it. This process may need to be repeated to achieve the desired maximum safe temperature.
- Outlet Temperature Adjustment (User-level): Once the maximum temperature is set, users can decrease the temperature by turning the handle clockwise or increase it by turning the handle counter-clockwise.
Installation: The installation procedure involves connecting the hot water supply to the "H" inlet and the cold water supply to the "C" inlet, typically using G1/2 connections. Stop valves and supply hoses are not included with the product but are necessary for installation.
Safety Warnings:
- Always ensure the maximum outlet water temperature does not exceed 49 °C.
- Do not reverse hot and cold water inlets.
- Insulate hot water supply pipes to minimize heat loss.
- Do not disassemble the thermostatic cartridge.
- Avoid use in humid locations where condensation may collect, such as saunas or steam rooms.
- Close stop valve(s) before cleaning strainers.
- Wrap pipes with insulation if room temperature drops to freezing.
- Observe all local plumbing codes.
- Flush piping thoroughly before installation.
- Ensure water supply is shut off before installation.

Maintenance Features:

Regular Cleaning: The valve is designed for years of trouble-free performance. To maintain its appearance, it should be cleaned periodically with mild soap, rinsed thoroughly with warm water, and dried with a clean, soft cloth.
Avoid Harsh Cleaners: Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or harsh chemicals, as these can dull the finish and potentially void the warranty.
Strainer Cleaning: The valve includes strainers that can become clogged, leading to issues like low flow rate or improper temperature control.
- To clean the strainers, first shut off the water at the stop valves.
- Disconnect the supply hoses.
- Pull out the filter (strainer) and clean it with a brush.
- Reinstall the clean filter and reconnect the water supply hoses.
- Open the stop valves.
Leak Checks: Periodically check the piping for leaks to ensure continued proper function and prevent water damage.
Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues such as water not running, low flow rate, or incorrect water temperature. Solutions often involve checking stop valve positions, cleaning strainers/regulating screens, or adjusting the temperature control handle. For instance, if water won't run, check if the stop valve is off or if the water supply is suspended. The warranty does not cover damage from natural calamities, unreasonable use, improper maintenance, modification, sediments in water, poor water quality, improper installation, electrical surges, or normal wear and tear.
