However, once the vehicle- to- vehicle dis-
tance control mode activates and is used,
it cannot be changed to the conventional
cruise control mode using the above op-
eration. To change the mode, press the
āON- OFFā button to turn the system off
and then press it again to turn it on. Next
push the lever in the āMODEā direction for
longer than about 1 second.
To change to the vehicle- to- vehicle dis-
tance control mode from the conventional
cruise control mode, push the lever in the
āMODEā direction for longer than about 1
second.
CAUTION
To avoid accidentally engaging cruise
control, keep the āON- OFFā button
off when not using dynamic laser
cruise control.
SETTING THE DESIRED SPEED
The transmission must be in the āDā posi-
tion, ā5ā (fifth range) or ā4ā (fourth range)
in sequential mode before you set the
cruise control speed in the conventional
cruise control mode.
Bring your vehicle to the desired speed,
push the lever down in the ā- SETā direc-
tion and release it. This sets the vehicle
at that speed and the display shows the
preset speed. You can now take your foot
off the accelerator pedal.
If you need to accelerateāfor example,
when passingādepress the accelerator
pedal enough for the vehicle to exceed
the preset speed. When you release the
accelerator pedal, the vehicle will return to
the speed set prior to acceleration.
You cannot set a desired speed if the
master warning light comes on, the alarm
sounds and the display indicates the
warning code āE3ā. If this code appears

CANCELLING THE PRESET SPEED
You can cancel the preset speed by doing
any of the following:
a. Pulling the lever in the āCANCELā
direction.
b. Depressing the brake pedal.
c. Pressing the āON- OFFā button.
