Overview

This document serves as an owner's manual for the Trane Wall-type Split System Air Conditioner, specifically the MCW Series 50 Hz models, which are cooling-only units. The manual provides comprehensive guidance on the installation, operation, and maintenance of these air conditioners, ensuring efficient comfort and convenient upkeep.

Function Description

The Trane Wall-type Split System Air Conditioner is designed to provide cooling for various room types. It operates as a split system, meaning it consists of an indoor unit (fan coil unit) and an outdoor unit (condensing unit). The system uses R-32 refrigerant, which is noted for its effective cooling performance and low flammability. The unit is controlled wirelessly via a remote control with an LCD display, offering a user-friendly interface for managing various settings.

Key operational modes include:

  • Automatic (AUTO) Mode: The system automatically selects the appropriate operation mode based on the room temperature, providing hassle-free comfort. In this mode, fan speed, TURBO, and SLEEP functions are unavailable.
  • Cooling (COOL) Mode: This is the primary cooling function, allowing users to set a desired temperature between 16-30 °C and adjust the fan speed (Low, Medium, High, or Automatic).
  • Dehumidifying (DRY) Mode: This mode focuses on reducing humidity in the room. In DRY mode, fan speed adjustment and TURBO mode are unavailable.
  • Fan (FAN) Mode: This mode circulates air without cooling, allowing users to select various fan speeds (Low, Medium, High, or Automatic).
  • TURBO Mode: Designed to accelerate cooling performance, this mode operates the air conditioner at its maximum level. It is only available in COOL mode and may result in louder noise.
  • SLEEP Mode: This feature automatically controls the temperature while sleeping, promoting comfort and energy efficiency. It is not available in FAN or AUTO modes.
  • X-FAN Function (Dehumidification Mode): When activated before turning off the unit, the fan will continue to operate at minimum speed for 10 minutes after the unit stops, helping to dry the evaporator coil and prevent mold growth. This function is available in COOL or DRY modes.
  • PLASMA System: This air filtration system operates to improve air quality.
  • I FEEL Function: The remote control scans the temperature around its handle and sends this data to the indoor unit's processor every 10 minutes. This helps provide the most comfortable room temperature for the occupants. For optimal performance, the infrared sender of the remote control should be pointed directly at the receiving window on the indoor unit.
  • Automatic Up & Down Swing (SWEEP Mode): This function automatically distributes cool air by moving the louver up and down.

The indoor unit features a digital display showing the set temperature, operating status, and various mode indicators. The remote control also includes a clock function and buttons for setting timers (ON/OFF), controlling the LED display light on the indoor unit, and locking/unlocking its buttons.

Usage Features

The Trane air conditioner is designed for ease of use with its wireless remote control.

  • Temperature Adjustment: Users can increase or decrease the temperature using the "+" and "-" buttons on the remote.
  • Mode Selection: The "MODE" button allows switching between AUTO, COOL, DRY, and FAN operations.
  • Fan Speed Control: The "FAN" button cycles through different fan velocity levels: AUTO, LOW, MED, and HIGH.
  • Timer Functions: "TIMER ON" and "TIMER OFF" buttons enable users to set automatic turn-on and turn-off times up to 24 hours in advance. The clock on the remote control can also be set.
  • Display Control: The "LIGHT" button can turn off the LED display light on the indoor unit for user convenience, especially during nighttime.
  • Safety Features: The system incorporates a 3-minute time delay for compressor protection during sudden on/off cycles, mode changes, or power outages, extending the compressor's lifespan. An emergency button on the indoor unit allows for manual on/off operation if the remote control malfunctions.
  • Remote Control Battery: The remote control uses two AAA alkaline dry batteries. It is recommended to remove the batteries if the air conditioner will not be used for an extended period.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the air conditioner's efficiency and longevity.

  • Power Disconnection: Always cut off the power source before performing any check or repair.
  • Air Filter Cleaning:
    • The air filter should be cleaned every 1 to 2 weeks for maximum cooling efficiency and fresh air.
    • To clean, remove the air filter by pulling it down.
    • Use non-PH clean water or a vacuum cleaner.
    • Do NOT use hot water over 40°C or volatile substances like gasoline or thinner.
    • Ensure the air filter is completely dry before reinserting it into the unit.
  • Front Panel Cleaning:
    • The front panel can be cleaned frequently by rubbing it with a soft, damp towel.
    • For very dirty units, use a soft towel dipped in lukewarm water or a non-PH substance.
    • Do NOT use hot water (>40°C) or volatile substances on the external surface to prevent damage.
    • Do NOT spray pesticides or inject water directly into the unit.
    • The front panel and body can be removed for thorough cleaning, following the provided illustrations, and all parts must be reassembled before operating the unit.
  • Professional Installation and Repair: Installation, maintenance, and repair must be performed by professional technicians. Users should NOT attempt to install, assemble, modify, or repair the air conditioner themselves. This is particularly important for R-32 refrigerant units due to its slight flammability.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a "Solution for Abnormal Operation" section to help users identify and resolve common issues before contacting service, such as checking the power supply, circuit breakers, remote control batteries, air filter cleanliness, set temperature, and obstructions. It also lists "Problems Not Caused from Air Conditioner," explaining normal operational sounds or occurrences like fog from the supply air grille.
  • Self-diagnostic Codes: The manual includes a list of self-diagnostic error codes (E1, E2, E4, E5, E6, E8, H3, H6, F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, PH, U5, EE) with their possible causes and recommended solutions, aiding in quicker diagnosis and repair by technicians.
