Overview

This document is a user manual for the Triton T80 GSI electric shower, providing detailed instructions for installation, operation, maintenance, and safety.

Function Description

The Triton T80 GSI is an electric shower designed to provide instant hot water for showering. It operates by heating mains cold water as it passes through internal heating elements. The user can adjust the power setting (Cold, Economy, High) and temperature control to achieve their desired showering temperature. A key safety feature is the Pressure Relief Device (PRD), which activates to prevent excessive pressure buildup within the unit. The shower is intended for permanent connection to the water mains and electrical supply.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Electrical:

    • Nominal power rating: Available in 8.5kW, 9.5kW, and 10.5kW models at 240V, or 7.8kW, 8.7kW, and 9.6kW at 230V.
    • MCB rating: 8.5kW (40A), 9.5kW (40A/45A), 10.5kW (45A).
    • Cartridge fuse rating: 8.5kW (45A), 9.5kW (45A), 10.5kW (45A).
    • Supply: 230-240V ac, single-phase.
    • Earthing: Appliance MUST be earthed.
    • Isolation: Requires a 45 amp double pole isolating switch with a minimum contact gap of 3mm in both poles.
    • RCD: A 30mA residual current device (RCD) MUST be installed in all UK electric and pumped shower circuits.
    • Cable size: Recommended minimum 10mm² cabling for most installations, but a competent electrician should assess individual site conditions.
    • Splashproof rating: IPX4.
    • Safety: Complies with current British and European safety standards for household electrical appliances. BEAB approved. CE compliant.
  • Plumbing:

    • Supply Source: Mains pressure cold water only.
    • Minimum running pressure and flow: 100kPa (1.0 bar) at 8 litres per minute for 8.5kW & 9.5kW models; 150kPa (1.5 bar) at 11 litres per minute for 10.5kW models.
    • Maximum static pressure: 1000 kPa (10 bar).
    • Maximum inlet temperature: 28°C.
    • Minimum inlet temperature: 2°C.
    • Inlet connection: 15mm diameter.
    • Outlet connection: ½" BSP male thread.
    • Fittings: Compression fittings MUST be used for inlet connection; push-on fittings are NOT recommended.
    • Back-flow prevention: If the showerhead can be placed within 25mm of the spill-over level of a bath, basin, or shower tray, a double check valve or similar MUST be fitted in the supply pipework.
    • Outlet: Acts as a vent for the heater can; DO NOT fit any form of outlet flow control or connect to anything other than the supplied hose and showerhead.
  • Materials:

    • Backplate, cover, controls, showerhead: ABS.
    • Sprayplate: Acetal.
    • Elements: Minerally insulated corrosion resistant metal sheathing.
  • Dimensions:

    • Width: 208mm.
    • Height: 308mm.
    • Depth: 108mm.

Usage Features

  • Controls: The shower features a Start/Stop button, a power selector knob (Cold, Economy, High), and a temperature control knob.
  • Power Settings:
    • Cold: Provides unheated water.
    • Economy: Uses one heating element for moderate heat, suitable for warmer months or when lower flow rates are experienced due to low water pressure.
    • High: Uses both heating elements for maximum heat output.
  • Temperature Control: Adjusts the flow rate of water through the heater can. Turning anti-clockwise increases flow and makes water colder; turning clockwise decreases flow and makes water hotter.
  • Commissioning Procedure: Essential upon first installation to flush out debris and ensure the heater unit contains water before elements are switched on. This involves running water through the unit with the showerhead removed, then slowly rotating the temperature control to maximum flow.
  • Safety Features:
    • Temperature Protection (TP): Automatically removes power to elements if water temperature exceeds a safe limit, restoring power once cooled.
    • Abnormal Safety Cut-out: A non-resettable thermal cut-out device disconnects heating elements in case of unsafe temperatures, requiring professional repair.
    • Two Stage Pressure Switch: Requires 1 Bar running inlet pressure for full power. Operates at reduced power down to 0.7 Bar, below which all power to elements is removed.
    • PRD (Pressure Relief Device): Protects the appliance from excessive pressure buildup, for example, due to a blocked showerhead or kinked hose.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning:
    • General: Recommended to clean all products with warm, soapy water. DO NOT use abrasive or aggressive chemical cleaning products.
    • Showerhead: Must be descaled regularly to prevent scale and debris buildup, which can restrict flow and cause higher temperatures or PRD operation.
    • Filter: The inlet filter should be periodically cleaned by a competent person to maintain performance. This involves switching off electricity and water supplies, removing the cover, unscrewing the filter cap, cleaning the filter (e.g., with an old toothbrush), and reassembling. The full commissioning procedure must be performed after cleaning the filter.
  • Servicing:
    • It is recommended to have the shower and installation checked at least every two years by a competent electrician.
    • All electrical maintenance/repairs should be carried out by a suitably qualified person.
    • Genuine Triton spare parts are recommended for repairs to maintain product specifications and guarantee validity.
  • Fault Finding/Troubleshooting: The manual includes a comprehensive section to diagnose common problems (e.g., shower inoperable, water too hot/cold, temperature cycling, PRD operation) and provides corresponding actions/cures.
