Do you have a question about the TROLLMaster ProAngler and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The TROLLMaster ProAngler is a wireless remote control system designed to enhance the fishing experience by providing remote control over trolling speed and direction. It integrates with existing marine equipment to offer a comprehensive solution for managing a kicker motor.

Function Description

The primary function of the TROLLMaster ProAngler is to provide wireless control of a kicker motor's throttle and, optionally, steering. This allows anglers to adjust their trolling speed and direction from anywhere in the boat, offering greater flexibility and convenience. Beyond manual control, the ProAngler features a "Strike Mode" which automatically adjusts engine speed based on pre-programmed profiles to simulate a fluttering lure, potentially increasing strike rates.

Important Technical Specifications

The system consists of a receiver unit and a remote control.

  • Power/Battery Connection: The receiver requires a 12V battery connection. It includes a 6-foot (1.8m) red 16AWG wire for positive connection (with a 15A ATO style blade fuse) and a 6-foot (1.8m) black 16AWG wire for negative connection.
  • ACC+ Switched Power: A 15-foot (4.6m) red 18AWG wire connects to a switched accessory power source at the helm station, ensuring the unit is powered down when the outboard engine is not in use.
  • Servo Connection: An 8-foot (2.4m) black wire connects to the included servo, which mounts under the motor's cowling to control the throttle.
  • Steering Connection (Optional): A 6-foot (1.8m) 2-way molded connector is provided for attaching a Panther Electro Steer unit, enabling remote steering control.
  • Remote Control Power: The remote operates on two standard AA batteries.
  • Wireless Range: The system is designed to work within approximately a 30-foot (9.1m) range, even in enclosed locations.
  • Throttle Control Range: The remote offers a speed adjustment range of 1-250. This is an internal scale and does not directly correlate to GPS speed, requiring an external GPS for accurate speed readings.
  • FCC and IC Compliance: The device complies with FCC Part 15 rules (FCC ID: 2AILDTMPRO3-PLUS) and Industry Canada RSS standard (IC: 21604-TMPRO3PS), ensuring it meets regulatory requirements for radio interference.

Usage Features

The TROLLMaster ProAngler offers several features for ease of use and enhanced fishing:

Remote Control Functions

  • Power On/Off: A dedicated button to power the remote on (1-second press) and off (2-second press).
  • Backlit LCD Screen: Provides clear visibility of settings and status.
  • Idle/Resume: A button to instantly drop the throttle to idle (setting 000) and then resume to the previously configured speed setting.
  • Max Throttle: A button to quickly increase the throttle to approximately 80% of factory throttle, holding this speed as long as the button is pressed. Releasing the button returns to the previous speed setting.
  • Incremental Speed Adjustment: "Rabbit Up" and "Turtle Down" buttons allow for single-increment adjustments of trolling speed.
  • Rapid Speed Adjustment: Holding either speed button for two seconds increases speed adjustments by 10 increments, then reverts to single increments upon release and subsequent press.
  • Left/Right Steering (Optional): If connected to a Panther Electro Steer, arrow buttons provide incremental steering adjustments. Holding the button results in larger adjustments.
  • Strike Mode™: A dedicated "PRO" button activates Strike Mode, offering four pre-programmed speed profiles (A, B, C, X) that create short bursts of increased speed at timed intervals (2, 4, or 6 minutes) to simulate a fluttering lure. Profile X offers a stronger burst.
  • Lanyard Loop: For securing the remote.

Installation and Setup

  • Quick Start Guide: Provides a step-by-step process for installation, including servo and throttle rod setup, receiver placement, cable routing, and remote pairing.
  • Mounting Holes: The receiver unit includes mounting holes to secure it in a suitable location, protecting it from water exposure and movement.
  • Pairing Button: A button on the receiver facilitates pairing with the remote control. A solid activity light indicates pairing mode, and the light turning off confirms successful pairing.
  • Receiver Antenna: Designed to lay loose and does not require specific installation attention.

Safety Features

  • Lanyard Stop Switch Extension: The manual emphasizes the importance of using an emergency safety switch lanyard (with or without the provided extension) to prevent serious injury or death due to ejection from the boat.
  • Steering Friction Control: For tiller steering outboards, it is recommended to set the steering friction just high enough to prevent the engine from turning on its own, especially when the operator lets go of the tiller.

Maintenance Features

  • Battery Replacement: The remote control uses two AA batteries, accessible by removing two screws. A "Low Battery" indication will appear on the screen when replacement is needed.
  • Sleep Mode: If inactive for one minute, the remote enters sleep mode to conserve battery life. Any button press will wake it up and resume the last used function.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: Provides common solutions for issues such as unresponsive servo/steering, including checking battery charge, cable connections, remote pairing, and remote screen display.
  • Warranty: CMP Group LTD. offers a ONE (1) YEAR warranty against defects in material and workmanship from the date of original retail purchase. Positive proof of purchase is required for warranty service. The warranty covers repair or replacement with new or factory rebuilt parts at no charge. It does not cover damage from accident, abuse, misuse, poor installation, modification, or removal/alteration of serial numbers. It also excludes expenses for removal or reinstallation of the unit.
  • Service Information: For service, customers are instructed to call CMP Group LTD. directly rather than returning the product to the dealer. Contact information and hours of operation are provided. Replacement parts are available for purchase if service is not covered by warranty.
