Operation
GROUNDING THE
G EN ERATO R
The National Electrical Code requires that the frame and
external electrically conductive parts of this generator be
properly connected to an approved earth ground. Local
electrical codes mayalso require proper grounding of the
unit. For that purpose, a GROUNDING FASTENERis
provided on the generator end (Figure 2).
Fastener
Generally,connecting a No. 12AWG (American Wire
Gauge) stranded copper wire to the grounding wing nut
and to an earth-driven copper or brass grounding rod
(electrode) provides adequate protection against electrical
shock. Be careful to keepthe grounding wire attached after
connecting the stranded copper wire. However, localcodes
may vary widely. Consult with a localelectrician for
grounding requirements in your area.
Properly grounding the generator helps prevent electrical
shock if aground fault condition exists in the generator or
in connected electrical devices, especiallywhen the unit is
equipped with a wheel kit. Proper grounding also helps
dissipate static electricity, which often builds up in
ungrounded devices.
OPERATING THE
G EN ERATO R
I. Turn fuel valve to "On" position (Figure 3). Fuel valve
handle should be vertical (pointing toward ground) for
fuel to flow.
FuelValve is shown
in the On position
2. Start engineaccording to engine owner's manual.
Connecting Electrical Loads
Let engine stabilize and warm up for a few minutes after
starting.
Plug in and turn on the desired 120 and/or 240 VottAC,
singlephase,60 Hz electrical loads.
DO NOT connect 240Volt loadsto the 120Volt duplex
receptacles.
DO NOT connect 3-phase loadsto the generator.
DO NOT connect 50 Hz loadsto the generator.
DO NOT OVERLOADTHE GENERATOR. See
"Don't Overload Generator" on page I I.
Stopping the Engine
I. Unplugall electrical loadsfrom generator panel
receptacles.NEVERstart or stop engine with electrical
devicesplugged in and turned ON.
2. Let engine run at no-load for several minutesto stabilize
internal temperatures of engineand generator.
3. Turn engine off according to engine owner's manual.
4. Move fuel valve to "Off" position.
RECEPTACLES
A CAUTION! NEVERstart or stop the engine
with electrical loadsconnected to the receptacles
AND with the connected devices turned ON.
Starting the Engine
Disconnectalt electrical loadsfrom the generator. Use the
following start instructions:
120/240 Volt AC, 20 Amp, Locking
Receptacle
Use a NEMA LI4-20 plug with this receptacle. Connect a
4-wire cord set rated for 250Volt AC loadsat 20 Amps (or
greater) (Figure4).You can use the same4-wire cord if you
plan to run a 120Volt load.
