3. Press the tabs on the air filter cover (1) and lift the cover (2)
up and off of the engine. See Figure 6-7.
4. Lift the air filter element up and off of the engine (3) as
shown in Figure 6-7.

5. Replace the paper element when dirty or damaged. Clean
foam element or replace when dirty or damaged.
6. To clean foam element, separate it from the paper element
and wash in liquid detergent and water. Allow to dry
thoroughly before using. Do not oil the foam element.
7. Replace the air filter element, then replace the air filter
cover until the tabs on the cover click securely into place.
See Figure 6-8.

8. Replace the engine cover in the reverse order in which
it was removed, securing it with the two SEMS screws
previously removed.
Drive Cable Adjustment
It may be necessary from time to time to adjust the drive cable
used to engage the tires and propel the unit forward. If the unit
does not propel itself with the drive control engaged, or if the
unit’s wheels hesitate with the drive control lever fully engaged,
follow these instructions to properly adjust the drive cable:
1. Locate the thumb wheel on the drive cable just above the
drive control lever on the power base, see Figure 6-9.
2. With the engine running, roll the thumb wheel counter-
clockwise until the wheels begin to move forward slightly,
then back it off approximately one quarter turn.

Adjustments
DO NOT make any engine adjustments. Factory settings are
satisfactory for most conditions. If adjustments are needed,
contact your Authorized Troy-bilt Service Dealer.
Carburetor
If you think the carburetor needs adjusting, see your nearest
Authorized Troy-bilt Service Dealer. Engine performance should
NOT be affected at altitudes up to 7,000 feet (2,134 meters). For
operation at higher elevations, contact your Authorized Troy-bilt
Service Dealer.
Engine Speed
WARNING! To avoid serious injury or death, DO
NOT modify engine in any way. Tampering with the
governor setting can lead to a runaway engine and
cause it to operate at unsafe speeds. NEVER tamper
with the factory setting of the engine governor.
WARNING! Running the engine faster than the
speed set at the factory can be dangerous and will
VOID THE ENGINE WARRANTY.
