What to do if my Tuthill KINNEY KT150 stalls?
    • S
      Sarah HurstAug 18, 2025
If your Tuthill Water Pump is stalling, first check the power at the motor to ensure there is no electrical loss of power. If the belts are slipping, the pump is malfunctioning, the pump oil is contaminated, or the pump isn't sufficiently lubricated, consult the Installing section and the Maintenance chapter, specifically the V-Belt Drive and Changing the Oil sections. If the pump is too cold, consult the General section within the Operation chapter. Also, foreign particles in pump can cause stalling, so disassemble pump and clean.

How to reduce excessive noise at low pressure in my Tuthill KINNEY KT150 Water Pump?
    • A
      Andrew RodriguezAug 21, 2025
If your Tuthill Water Pump is excessively noisy at low pressure, it could be due to hydraulic noise from the pump discharge. Try opening the gas ballast valve; if the noise disappears with air bleed, it's hydraulic and not a major concern. If the noise persists even with air bleed, it may be mechanical, caused by the knocking of rotary internals due to excess wear. In this case, consider replacing rotary internals such as the piston, cam, and slide pin.

Why is my Tuthill KINNEY KT150 Water Pump vibrating?
    • C
      Carol BrooksAug 25, 2025
If your Tuthill Water Pump is vibrating, it might be because the inlet or outlet connectors aren't flexible enough. Try using Kinney® flexible connectors or more flexible alternatives. Another cause could be incorrect or improperly positioned vibration mounts. Ensure that the vibration mounts are installed correctly.

What causes oil in the inlet piping of my Tuthill Water Pump?
    • M
      Michael RodriguezAug 28, 2025
If there's oil in the inlet piping of your Tuthill Water Pump, it could be due to several reasons. The piping might be at an incorrect level, in which case you should add an inlet elbow. Another potential cause is leaving the gas ballast valve open when stopping the pump, so add a manual or automatic valve. Also if there is no isolation valve and vent valve, add as shown in Figure __.

What to do if my Tuthill Water Pump makes excessive noise at low pressure?
    • M
      Michelle MerrittSep 4, 2025
If your Tuthill Water Pump is making excessive noise at low pressure, it could be due to the clacking noise of the pump discharge. Try opening the gas ballast valve. If the noise disappears when air is bled, the noise is from the discharge valves and is not a concern. If the noise persists, even with air bleed, it may be a mechanical knocking noise due to excessive wear of rotary internals. In this case, replace rotary internals such as the piston, cam, and slide pin.

Why is there oil in the inlet piping of my Tuthill KINNEY KT150 Water Pump?
    • G
      Gina HernandezSep 7, 2025
If there is oil in the pump inlet piping of your Tuthill Water Pump, it could be due to the piping being at an incorrect level. Adding an inlet elbow might resolve this. Another cause could be the gas ballast valve being left open when stopping the pump; consider adding an automatic valve. The absence of an isolation valve and vent valve could also be the reason.

How to fix a vibrating Tuthill Water Pump?
    • R
      Renee ShieldsSep 12, 2025
If your Tuthill Water Pump vibrates, it might be because the inlet or outlet connectors are not flexible. Consider using flexible connectors. Another possible cause is that the vibration mounts are incorrect or not positioned properly; check to ensure they are installed correctly.

Why is the ultimate pressure of my Tuthill Water Pump system excessively high?
    • T
      tyler21Nov 14, 2025
If the Tuthill Water Pump's system ultimate pressure is excessively high, it could be due to several reasons. The process equipment might be contaminated by high vapor pressure material, in which case you should clean the equipment with acetone, alcohol, or another suitable solvent. Alternatively, there might be leaks in the process equipment or the pump itself; try pumping down with the vacuum pump overnight to resolve this. A restricted oil flow, indicated by the oil level not changing with pump pressure, could also be the cause, so check for and repair any leaks in the process equipment. If the vacuum pump oil is contaminated, replace it, referring to the sections on Changing the Oil and Oil Contamination. Also, a malfunctioning discharge valve, a vacuum pump shaft seal or worn or damag...

If the system ultimate pressure is excessively high in your Tuthill Water Pump, it could be due to several reasons. The process equipment might be contaminated; in this case, clean the equipment with acetone, alcohol, or another suitable solvent and then pump down overnight. Alternatively, there might be leaks in the process equipment or the pump itself; inspect and repair any leaks. A restricted oil flow could also be the cause; drain the oil, remove and clean the external oil piping, clean the y-strainer (KT500/850), and replace the external oil filter if one is installed. Another potential issue is contaminated vacuum pump oil, which requires an oil change. Lastly, a malfunctioning discharge valve or vacuum pump shaft seal, or worn or damaged internal parts could be the problem. Check t...
