The Vaillant ecoTEC plus VU../VUW../VUI.. is a heat generator designed for sealed heating installations and domestic hot water generation. It is intended for use in residential settings and offers various functionalities to ensure efficient heating and hot water supply.
The ecoTEC plus operates as a central component in a heating system, providing heat for radiators and supplying domestic hot water. It features a display and control elements that allow users to monitor and adjust its operation. The product can be set to different modes, including heating mode and domestic hot water mode, to meet specific comfort requirements.
In heating mode, the device heats rooms according to the user's settings. The flow temperature, which is the temperature at which heating water leaves the heat generator, can be adjusted. For products with a control module, a desired room temperature can also be set. The heating mode can be permanently switched off, entering a "summer mode" where only domestic hot water generation remains active.
For domestic hot water, the ecoTEC plus heats potable water to a desired temperature. Users can set this temperature via the control panel. The device also offers a "comfort mode" which keeps domestic hot water generation ready, providing hot water at the desired temperature without a waiting period. Some models include an integrated hot water generation or can be connected to a domestic hot water cylinder, offering additional options for hot water supply. Products with an actoSTOR shift-load cylinder have comfort mode activated by default, and an automatic anti-legionella function heats the cylinder to 70 °C once every 24 hours if the temperature falls below 50 °C.
The device incorporates safety features, including protection against gas leaks and flue gas issues. It also has frost protection devices that remain active when the product is in standby mode or when heating mode is switched off via a control.
The ecoTEC plus features an intuitive operating concept with control elements that light up when selectable. Adjustable values and list entries can be changed using a scrollbar, and changes must be confirmed to be saved. The display shows important information such as the current burner modulation rate, system pressure, and active modes (heating, DHW, comfort). Symbols on the display provide quick visual cues about the product's status, including warnings, fault codes (F.XXX), limp home mode codes (N.XXX), and maintenance required messages (I.XXX).
The basic display allows users to quickly set the desired domestic hot water temperature and flow temperature for heating. A menu system, accessible by pressing the menu button, provides access to more detailed settings. The menu structure and available functions may vary depending on whether a system control is connected.
The device supports multiple operating levels, with an end-user level for general settings and an installer level protected by a code for expert configuration. A button lock feature can be activated or deactivated to prevent accidental changes to settings.
For enhanced control, especially with the Vaillant sensoROOM pure (VRT 50/2) room temperature control, users can manage room control timings. This includes switching the time control on/off for continuous or time-dependent heating and setting specific time periods using a weekly planner or a time programme assistant. The weekly planner allows for daily schedules with individual start and end times, and different desired temperatures for each period.
The display also provides information on water pressure and energy data, including gas and power consumption for heating and DHW. These energy values are approximate and based on calculation algorithms, offering insights into energy usage over various timeframes (today, yesterday, last month, last year, total).
Regular care and maintenance are crucial for the ecoTEC plus to ensure its safety, efficiency, and longevity. The casing can be cleaned with a damp cloth and a solvent-free soap. It is important not to use abrasive cleaners or those containing chlorine.
An annual inspection by a competent person is recommended to maintain the product's operational readiness and reliability. The device provides maintenance messages (I.XXX codes) on the display to indicate when maintenance is required. While the product continues to operate in maintenance mode, it is advisable to consult a competent person.
Maintaining the pressure of the heating system is a key aspect of maintenance. The filling pressure can be checked on the basic display, as a value or a five-stage bar symbol, and in the INFORMATION menu, which compares the current value to minimum and maximum filling pressures. The recommended filling pressure is at least 1 bar (0.1 MPa), with a maximum of 2.5 bar (0.25 MPa). If the pressure drops below 0.8 bar (0.08 MPa), heating water needs to be topped up. The manual provides guidance on topping up and purging the heating installation, emphasizing the use of suitable heating water to prevent material damage from calciferous, corrosive, or chemically contaminated water.
The condensate discharge pipe and tundish must be regularly checked for blockages to ensure condensate can flow freely. Any faults or obstructions should be addressed by a competent person.
In case of faults, the display shows fault codes (F.XXX) or limp home mode codes (N.XXX). The manual includes tables with possible causes and measures for common issues, such as insufficient water pressure (F.022) or ignition failures (F.028). If a fault cannot be resolved using the provided measures, a competent person should be contacted. For limp home mode codes, the system can still operate safely, but professional attention is recommended.
The device can be temporarily decommissioned, for example, if there is no risk of frost, by switching it off at the fused spur box and closing the gas stopcock. For products with integrated hot water generation or a connected cylinder, the cold-water isolation valve should also be closed. Permanent decommissioning must be carried out by a competent person. Restarting the product involves switching it back on at the fused spur box and opening the gas stopcock and cold-water isolation valve (if applicable).
