2.4 Checking Cathodic Protection
On the thruster tail piece (the gearbox un-
der water in the thruster tube) a zinc anode
is installed. This zinc anode will be dissolved
(sacriced) by electrolysis to prevent corro-
sion of the bronze tailpiece and the propel-
ler shaft. The speed at which the zinc anode
is dissolved depends on the temperature
and the type of water (salt or fresh) and stray
current in the water around the boat either
from other vessels or a defective ground in
the shore power system.
Zinc anode corrosion can also result from
a short circuit to any part of the thruster
mechanism.
The zinc anode should be inspected and/or
replaced at least once per year.
Replace the zinc anode if it is less than half
the original size.
In clear water it is also possible to check the
zinc anode during the sailing season.
WARNING
Make sure that you disconnect power to
the thruster!
2.3 Tail piece and zinc anode
Lubrication
The bow thruster tailpiece has long-term lubrication. Therefore oil
change is not necessary.

• Remove mounting bolt (1) and zinc anode (2).
• Then remove in order the nut, washer and propeller (3), the key (4)
and the V-ring (5).
• Clean the propeller shaft and grease the running surface of the V-
ring with ‘outboard gear grease’ *).
• Fit a new V-ring.
• Reinstall the key on the shaft and reassemble the propeller.
*) A suitable grease is VETUS ‘Shipping Grease’, Part number: VSG.

‘Service Parts’ page in your bow thruster manual.
2.5 Zinc anode replacement
• Remove the propeller.
• Remove the screws from the zinc anode and
remove the zinc anode.
• Install the new zinc anode, install the new zinc
anode after application of thread lock (Loc-
tite®).
• Clean the propeller shaft, grease it with ‘out-
board gear grease’ *) and reassemble the pro-
peller on the shaft.
*) A suitable grease is VETUS ‘Shipping Grease’,
Part number: VSG.

Rabeta e anodo
Lubrificação
As rabetas possuem tem lubrificação de longo prazo. Portanto, a
troca de óleo não é necessária.
Verificação da proteção catódica
Na rabeta, um ânodo de zinco é instalado.
Este ânodo de zinco será dissolvido
(sacrificado) por eletrólise para evitar a
corrosão do arremate de bronze e do eixo
da hélice. A velocidade com que o ânodo
de zinco é dissolvido depende da
temperatura e do tipo de água (sal ou
doce) e da corrente parasita na água ao
redor do barco, ou de outras
em ba r c a çõ es , ou um at er ra m e n to
defeituoso no sistema de energia em terra.
A corrosão do ânodo de zinco também
pode resultar de um curto-circuito em
qualquer parte do mecanismo do
propulsor.
O anodo deve ser inspecionado e/ou
substituído no mínimo 1x por ano.
Substitua o anodo caso esteja menor que
metade de seu tamanho origina.
Em águas limpas é possível verificar o
anodo durante a temporada de uso.

Substituição do anodo
Bow thrusters com túnel de diâmetro Ø110mm, Ø125mm, Ø140mm, Ø150mm e Ø185mm
- Remova o hélice.
- Remova os parafusos de fixação do anodo, e
remova o anodo.
- Instale um novo anodo após aplicar trava
rosca (Loctite®).
- Limpe o eixo do hélice, engraxe-o*, e reinstale
o hélice.
*) Uma graxa adequada para este uso é a
VETUS ‘Shipping grease’

Para obter o número de peça de um ânodo de
zinco de reposição (com parafusos de
montagem), consulte a página 44, 45 'Peças de
reposição' ou consulte a página 'Peças de
reposição’ no manual do bow thruster.
Bow thrusters com túnel de diâmetro Ø250mm e Ø300mm.
- Remova o parafuso (1) e o anodo (2)
- Remova a porca, arruela e hélice (3), a chaveta (4) e o anel de
proteção V-ring (5).
- Limpe o eixo do hélice, e engraxe* o eixo e a superfície do contato
do anel de proteção V-ring com
- Instale um novo anel de proteção V-ring.
- Reinstale a chaveta e o hélice.
*) Uma graxa adequada para este uso é a VETUS ‘Shipping grease’
