Function Description:

The 485C air compressor is engineered to provide compressed air for a range of uses, including inflating tires, operating air tools, and supporting air suspension systems. It is designed for permanent installation and is equipped with a heavy-duty, heat-resistant leader hose with 3/8" NPT fittings, which includes a built-in inline check valve to prolong the life of the air line. The compressor operates on a 12-volt DC system and is intended for use with an air tank to build and maintain pressure. It features an Automatic Reset Thermal Protector to prevent overheating and permanent damage, ensuring safe and extended operation. Usage Features:

  • Installation: The compressor requires a flat, upright, and secure mounting location, ideally as close to the battery as possible to minimize positive lead wire length. It should be installed in a cool area, away from heat sources, and in a dry location as it is moisture and splash resistant but not waterproof. For remote filter mounting, the remote inlet air filter should also be in a dry location. Thread sealant is recommended for proper fitting installation, with a torque of 12 to 15 ft. lbs. The kit includes mounting bolts, flat washers, locking washers, nuts, hose bracket, barbed fittings (3/8NPT F x 1/2" and 3/8NPT M x 1/2"), remote mount filter air line, air line clips, screws, and a remote inlet air filter with filter element and cover.
  • Wiring: The compressor's positive lead wire connects to one of the leads of a pressure switch, and an appropriate fuse (30 Amps recommended) should be located as close as possible to the power source. The manual provides an American Wire Gauge Guide for 12-volt systems, detailing recommended wire lengths and amp draws to ensure proper electrical connection. A wiring diagram illustrates the connection of the compressor, a 40A relay, fuse, battery, and pressure switch to a keyed power source.
