Quick start guide
The following guide will show you how to setup your new MicroFogger 5 Pro for the first
time. Follow each step carefully - failure to do so will cause frustration!
Read ALL parts of this manual to ensure you use this device safely, and correctly
1. Locate the MicroFogger and place it on charge using the included cable. The
STATUS light will turn orange to indicate charging and will turn off once fully
charged.
2. Locate the fluid tank and remove the rubber fill port cap. Fill it using the bottle of fog
liquid, taking care not to over-fill. Replace the fill cap. Wait 15 minutes to allow the
atomizer to saturate. This wait period is only required when using a brand new coil.
3. Once the MicroFogger is sufficiently charged, unplug it. Although we recommend
fully charging, you may begin using it at any state of charge.
4. Remove the fluid tank caps (if installed) and screw the fluid tank onto the
MicroFogger, ensuring it is not over-tightened. Place the safety cover over the tank.

Overview

The MicroFogger 5 Pro is a compact, high-performance fog machine designed for various applications, from special effects to automated control in custom projects. It operates on a Lithium-ion battery and produces fog by evaporating a mixture of Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerin.

Function Description:

The MicroFogger 5 Pro generates smoke/fog on demand. It features an on-board screen and controls for adjusting smoke density, airflow power (smoke speed), and various advanced settings. It supports continuous operation, delayed activation, and looping sequences. The device can be triggered manually via a smoke button, remotely using a 433mHz remote control, or via a wired connection through its USB-C port, allowing for integration with microcontrollers like Arduino for automated control. It also supports accessories such as diffusers and light accessories, with adjustable power levels and light modes (color, cycle speed, RGB speed).

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Source: High-performance Lithium-ion battery.
  • Charging: USB-C cable, can be charged while ON or OFF.
  • Fog Liquid: High purity vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol mixture.
  • Remote Control Frequency: 433mHz.

Usage Features:

  • Quick Start:
    • Charge the device: STATUS light turns orange while charging, off when full.
    • Fill fluid tank: Remove rubber cap, fill with fog liquid (do not overfill), replace cap. Wait 15 minutes for new coils to saturate.
    • Turn on: Use the small switch on the bottom; screen comes on, STATUS light turns green.
    • Attach fluid tank: Screw tank onto MicroFogger, ensuring it's not overtightened. Place safety cover over the tank.
  • Operation Rules:
    • Keep mostly upright (vertical) during operation.
    • Monitor fog liquid level; refill below 1/4 full.
    • Unscrew fluid tank and turn off when not in use.
    • Unscrew fluid tank for charging.
  • "Spitting" Prevention: After filling or storage, insert a Q-tip into the barrel, twisting clockwise to absorb excess liquid. Remove by twisting anti-clockwise. Avoid looking into the barrel during operation.
  • On-board User Interface:
    • Switch: Slide right for ON, left for OFF.
    • Smoke Button: Hold to produce smoke, release to stop. Press once to return to previous menu screen.
    • Mode Button: Press to switch between smoke density/speed adjustment on the home screen. Hold to enter settings menu. In settings, press to cycle through settings.
    • Select Button: Press to cycle through smoke density/speeds on home screen. Press to configure individual settings in menu. Hold on some settings to quickly cycle through values.
  • Screen User Interface: Displays status (top logo), battery charge (indicator), airflow power/smoke speed (left bar), heating coil power/smoke density (right bar), and fluid tank temperature (middle thermometer).
  • Settings Menu:
    • Continuous Mode: Sets duration for continuous operation after trigger (up to 10s, or 60s with TIME LIMIT off). Cancel by pressing SMOKE.
    • Delay: Sets wait time before continuous mode activates (up to 15 minutes). Requires continuous mode to be on.
    • Loop: Sets number of operational loops (up to 5, or infinite with TIME LIMIT off). Requires continuous and delay mode to be on.
    • RC Channel: Adjusts remote control channel.
    • Accessory Menu:
      • Mode: Accessory always on (CONT) or only when smoke is generated (TRIG).
      • Diffuser Power: Power level for diffuser accessory.
      • Light Mode: Light accessory mode.
      • Color: Hold SELECT to cycle through 360 colors, white, and RGB.
      • Cycle Speed: How quickly a light mode cycle happens.
      • RGB Speed: How quickly the RGB spectrum cycles through colors.
    • Advanced Menu:
      • RC Program: Binds MicroFogger to any 433mHz remote control.
      • Remote ON/OFF/TRG: Turns remote control functionality ON/OFF. TRG activates auto-run modes.
      • Time Limit ON/OFF: Turns continuous operation time limit on/off, unlocking greater values for continuous and loop modes when off. (Advanced, potentially dangerous if misused).
      • Charge Lock ON/OFF: Controls activation while charging. Keep ON unless charging and triggering simultaneously.
      • Control Cable ON/OFF: Toggles USB port as a trigger. Keep OFF unless using control cable accessory.
      • Info: Displays software version, total runtime, and battery voltage.
  • Wired Manual Control: Connect data pins (3 and 4) of the USB-C port to a switch or relay. Requires "Control cable ON/OFF" setting to be ON.
  • Wired Digital Control: Connect breakout board's GND pin to microcontroller's ground pin. Send HIGH/LOW signal to input pin to turn on/off. Signal voltage 3V-5V. Requires "Control cable ON/OFF" setting to be ON.
  • External Power: Can operate while charging from a USB battery bank or 5V power supply. Connect positive terminal of 5V supply to charging pin on breakout board and black wire to ground pin. Requires "Charge lock ON/OFF" setting to be OFF for wired control while charging.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Wipe exterior with a moist paper towel if oily. If fluid tank gets oily or wet, remove, wipe clean, or wash with clean water (ensure fully dry before re-installing).
  • Heating Coil Replacement:
    1. Unscrew fluid tank, remove fill port cap, drain fluid.
    2. Use tank tool to unscrew top cap while holding clear housing.
    3. Remove tank base by pushing it out of clear housing.
    4. Unscrew heating coil using fingers or gripping tool.
    5. Remove and save metal nozzle from bottom of worn coil. Discard worn coil.
    6. Install saved nozzle into new heating coil, ensuring wire is wedged between rubber gasket and nozzle.
    7. Screw new coil back in, re-assemble tank, ensure O-rings are fitted properly.
    8. After installing a new coil, let it soak in liquid for 15 minutes. (Worn coils have a black, charred interior; new ones are white).
  • Battery Swaps:
    1. Turn device OFF.
    2. Gently push in on battery cap while rotating anti-clockwise.
    3. Remove cap, hold MicroFogger vertical, gently tap on soft surface to eject battery. Store battery in safety case.
    4. To re-install, gently push battery in, ensuring correct orientation (marked on casing).
    5. Re-install battery cap by pushing in and rotating 90° clockwise, in correct orientation.
    6. Tip: For storage, install battery in reverse orientation to prevent accidental activation.
  • Leak Troubleshooting ("LEAK" on screen):
    1. Remove safety cap and unscrew fluid tank.
    2. Unscrew 3 screws holding front metal bulkhead.
    3. Slide top cover (with screen) forwards ~2 cm, then back in place.
    4. Remove front bulkhead, observe inside housing.
    5. Use paper towel to wipe away liquid.
    6. For significant leaks, consult disassembly manual.
    • Reassembly:
      1. Ensure top cover (with screen) is in normal position.
      2. Screw fluid tank onto front bulkhead, ensuring center pin is in place.
      3. Gently push bulkhead and tank assembly in place, ensuring good alignment.
      4. Unscrew fluid tank, screw 3 screws back into place.
  • Troubleshooting (General):
    • Reset MicroFogger by holding select and mode buttons for 10 seconds until "full reset" is displayed.
    • No smoke: Check smoke density power, ensure fluid tank is screwed on tightly. If issues persist, insert Q-tip handle (cut cotton part off) into barrel, apply downwards pressure to re-seat connections.
    • Fluid tank leaking: May be over-filled. Wipe excess liquid, perform Q-tip cleaning. Persistent leaks may indicate worn heating coil.
    • Won't turn on: Check battery direction, switch ON. If screen off, turn switch OFF, charge for several hours. May need battery swap if over-discharged.
    • Won't charge: Check battery direction. Try different charger/USB-C cable.
    • Activates on charge: Check "Charge lock" (OFF) and "Control cable" (ON) settings. Revert to default.
    • Burning smell (new coil): Slight smell is normal initially. If it persists or worsens, stop use, rest for 15 minutes, ensure tank is full. Replace coil if smell persists.
    • Flickers ON/OFF when shaken: Indicates loose battery spring; readjust.
    • Spits out fog liquid: Use Q-tip method. Increase smoke speed if happening at low speeds.
  • Storage: Fully charge, turn off, unscrew fluid tank, apply storage caps. Store in cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and flammable materials. Battery can be left inside.
