Overview

This document describes the VTech DECT 6.0 cordless telephone, available in various models including CS6114, CS6114 A, CS6114-11, CS6114-11 A, CS6114-2, CS6114-2 A, CS6114-21, and CS6114-21 A. This abridged user's manual provides basic installation and use instructions, with a limited set of features described in an abbreviated form. For a full set of instructions, users are directed to the online Complete user's manual at www.vtechcanada.com.

The telephone does not include a built-in answering system but supports voicemail services offered by telephone service providers. It alerts users to new voicemail messages. Users are advised to contact their service provider for setup and message retrieval.

The package includes a handset, telephone base, telephone base power adapter, telephone line cord, battery, battery compartment cover, and, for multi-handset models, a charger and charger adapter.

Installation:

The telephone base and charger are installed by plugging the telephone line cord into a wall jack (with a DSL filter if DSL Internet service is used) and connecting the power adapters to electrical outlets not controlled by a wall switch. The power adapters and batteries supplied with the product should be used. Power adapters are designed for vertical or floor mount positions. For cable/VoIP service, the telephone line cord should be plugged into the modem/router/terminal adapter.

Optional wall mounting is possible by positioning the top hole of the telephone base against a mounting stud and sliding it down until it locks into place.

Battery installation involves plugging the battery connector into the socket, placing the battery with wires inside the compartment, sliding the battery compartment cover until it clicks, and then placing the handset in the telephone base or charger to charge. The CHARGE light remains on during charging. If the handset is not used for a long time, the battery should be disconnected and removed to prevent leakage.

After installation, users should check for a dial tone by pressing /FLASH. If no dial tone is heard, installation procedures should be rechecked, or it may indicate a wiring problem, especially for cable/VoIP service users who might need rewiring.

Battery Charging:

The handset should be kept in the telephone base or charger when not in use for best performance. A full charge takes 16 hours. Battery indicators on the screen show the charge status: a blank or flashing "Place in charger" indicates very low charge; flashing "Low battery" means enough charge for a short time; and "HANDSET X" with time/date indicates a charged battery. If the handset is placed in the base without a battery, "No battery" will display.

Handset Overview:

The handset features a CHARGE light (on when charging), ▼CID/VOL- (review call log, decrease volume, scroll down, move cursor left), MENU/SELECT (show menu, select item, save setting), ▲/VOL+ (review directory, increase volume, scroll up, move cursor right), TALK/FLASH (make/answer calls, answer incoming calls), 1 (add/remove 1 for dialing/saving), Dialing keys (enter numbers/characters), TONEX (switch to tone dialing), MUTE/DELETE (mute microphone, delete digits/characters, silence ringer, delete entries), OFF/CANCEL (hang up, silence ringer, erase missed call indicator, return to previous/idle mode, delete digits while predialing), # (show other dialing options), and REDIAL/PAUSE (review redial list, insert dialing pause).

Telephone Base Overview:

The telephone base has an IN USE light (on when handset is in use, flashes quickly for incoming calls, flashes for another phone on the same line) and a /FIND HANDSET button (page handset).

Voicemail Indicator:

"New voicemail" and an icon appear on the handset for new voicemail messages. This feature is dependent on the telephone service provider.

Using the Menu:

To enter the handset menu, press MENU/SELECT, scroll with ▼CID or ▲ until the desired feature menu displays, then press MENU/SELECT. OFF/CANCEL returns to the previous menu, and holding OFF/CANCEL returns to idle mode.

Telephone Settings:

Settings include LCD language (English, Français, Español), Clr voicemail (turns off voicemail indicators without deleting messages), Key tone (handset beeps on key press), Set date/time, Home area code (stores 7-digit local numbers), and Dial mode (Tone or Pulse).

Ringer Volume:

Ringer volume can be adjusted or turned off via the Ringers menu. If off, "Ringer off" displays, but the handset still rings when /FIND HANDSET is pressed.

Set Date and Time:

If caller ID service is subscribed, date/time is set automatically. Manual setting involves entering the menu, selecting Settings, then Set date/time, using dialing keys for month, date, year, hour, minute, and choosing AM/PM. Date/time needs to be reset after power failure or battery replacement.

Stores up to 30 entries. Entries are shared across system handsets (multi-handset models). "XX missed calls" indicates unreviewed calls. Press and hold OFF/CANCEL on an idle handset to erase the missed call indicator.

  • Reviewing/dialing: Press ▼CID, scroll, use # for dialing options, 1 to add/remove 1, then TALK/FLASH to dial.
  • Saving to directory: Display entry, press MENU/SELECT, edit number if needed, press MENU/SELECT, edit name if needed, press MENU/SELECT to confirm.
  • Deleting entries: Display entry, press MUTE/DELETE. To delete all, press MENU/SELECT, select Call log, then Del all calls, press MENU/SELECT.

Rewiring for Cable/VoIP Service Users:

If using cable/VoIP service, existing telephone jacks may not work. Rewiring of the telephone line may be needed to allow all jacks to function. Professional installation may be required.

Troubleshooting:

  • Telephone not working: Check battery installation/charge, power adapter connection, telephone line cord connection. Unplug base power for 15 seconds, plug back in, allow synchronization. Charge battery for up to 16 hours. Remove/reinstall battery, or replace. Test with a working telephone at the wall jack to rule out wiring/service issues.
  • No dial tone: Try above suggestions. Move handset closer to base. Replace line cord. Test with a different telephone. Check for rewiring needs with cable/VoIP service.
  • Cannot dial out: Ensure dial tone. Allow handset to synchronize. Check for wiring/service issues. Eliminate background noise.
  • "Not registered" on handset: Re-register handset. Remove handset from base. Press and hold /FIND HANDSET on base for ~4 seconds until IN USE light turns on. Press # on handset; "Registering..." displays. "Registered" displays upon completion.
  • "Low battery" on handset: Place handset in base/charger. Remove/reinstall battery, fully deplete, then charge for up to 16 hours. Replace battery if problem persists.
  • Battery not charging: Ensure handset is correctly placed in base/charger (CHARGE light on). Remove/reinstall battery, charge for up to 16 hours. Clean charging contacts. Unplug power adapter for 15 seconds, plug back in, allow reset. Purchase new battery.
  • CHARGE light off: Clean charging contacts. Check power adapter/line cord connections. Unplug power adapter for 15 seconds, plug back in, allow reset.
  • Telephone not ringing: Check ringer volume. Check line cord/power adapter connections. Move handset closer to base. Check for too many extension phones. Check for wiring/service issues. Check for interference from other electronic products. Test working telephone at wall jack. Replace line cord. Remove/reinstall battery, place handset in base, allow synchronization.
  • Handset beeps/not performing normally: Check power cord connection. Move handset closer to base. Reset base by unplugging power for 15 seconds. Check for interference from other electronic products.
  • Interference during conversation/calls fade out: Move handset closer to base. Install DSL filter if using DSL Internet. Move appliance/base to another outlet. Check for interference from other electronic products. Relocate telephone/modem if plugged with surge protector. Improve base location. Test with corded telephone at wall jack to rule out wiring/service issues.
  • Hearing other calls: Test with different telephone at wall jack to rule out wiring/service issues.
  • Noise on handset/keys not working: Check secure line cord connection.
  • "Out of range" or "no pwr at base": Move handset closer to base. Check secure power cord connection. Reset telephone by unplugging power adapter, disconnecting battery, waiting 15 seconds, then reconnecting. Check for interference from other electronic products.
