There may also be a short circuit in the thermostat line, in which case you should change the thermostat. The thermostat itself may also be defective.

Other potential issues include low battery capacity (replace the battery), too small of a cable cross section (change the cable), high ambient temperature/insufficient ventilation (move the refrigerator), a dirty condenser (clean the condenser), or a defective fan (replace the fan). In the worst case, the compressor itself may be defective (replace the compressor).
