4.2.5 Brakes
The service brake is a drum brake on the front differential
gear. It acts on the front and rear axles via the cardan
shaft. The brake is operated by the brake pedal.
The vehicle is also braked electromagnetically by the elec-
tric motor of the drive system when the accelerator pedal is
released.
When braking by the electric engine, released energy is
stored in the drive battery (recuperation).
The parking brake consists of a spring-applied brake. The
spring-loaded brake is located on the electric engine of the
driving drive and acts on the front and rear axles via the
cardan shaft. The spring-loaded brake engages automatic-
ally after 3 seconds when the vehicle is stationary. Until
then, the vehicle is held by the electric engine of the driving
drive (Hill Hold).
In addition, the parking brake can be actuated manually via
a switch. This function is also used to activate the second-
ary brake in the event of service brake failure.
4.2.6 Steering system
The steering system is designed as articulated pendulum
steering. It is operated hydraulically via a steering orbitrol
and double-acting hydraulic cylinders.
Emergency steering feature
The steering system functions normally only with the drive
running.
If the drive fails, the vehicle can still be steered. However,
operating the steering system then requires greater
strength and the steering will only respond slowly. Take
this into account especially when towing the vehicle. Adjust
the towing speed to the changed steering behavior (walk-
ing pace)!
