WARNING
Do not block the exhaust port. Pressure will build up with the
potential of oil case bursting with possible injury to personnel.
WARNING
Pumps being run continuously above 1 torr should use an
exhaust oil recycler.
WARNING
Pumps not recommended for filtration, aspiration or drying
electrophoresis gels.

What to do if my Welch 8905 Water Pump will not start?
    • K
      Kyle RobertsonAug 7, 2025
If your Welch Water Pump won't start, there are several potential causes. First, check the switches and fuses to ensure the power is on. A damaged coupling or loose coupling set screw can also prevent the pump from starting, so inspect those components. In cold environments, the pump might seize; in this case, drain and refill the pump with warm oil. If the pump mechanism is seized, it may require professional repair.

Why is my Welch 8905 Water Pump excessively noisy?
    • N
      nbassAug 11, 2025
An excessively noisy Welch Water Pump can stem from several issues. Restricted intake or exhaust lines could be the culprit, so clean and straighten the lines and check the oil level. A damaged coupling can also cause noise, so examine and replace if necessary. A slapping noise at ultimate pressure can be typical for some pumps, in this case you should clean the orifice air passage. If the internal mechanism is damaged, the pump may need to be repaired.

What to do if my Welch 8905 does not reach ultimate pressure?
    • V
      Vanessa HarrisonAug 16, 2025
If your Welch Water Pump isn't reaching ultimate pressure, several factors could be responsible. The pump might be contaminated, in which case you should flush and change the pump oil and use a foreline trap. Ensure the pump is filled with the recommended oil and that the oil level is adequate. Using the wrong oil can also cause this issue, so flush and refill with the correct oil. Check for leaks in the vacuum system and eliminate any sources. A dirty foreline trap can also be a problem; clean out cold traps and replace elements in coaxial and molecular sieve traps. Finally, make sure the gas ballast is closed.

Why does my Welch Water Pump oil look dark or dirty?
    • W
      wilsonstevenAug 20, 2025
Dark, unusually colored, or dirty oil in your Welch Water Pump can be due to contamination from process gases or other foreign material. In this case, flush and change the pump oil, and use a foreline trap. Also, the pump oil might have degraded because the pump has run too low on oil, the recommended oil was not used, or the pump is running continuously above its maximum operation pressure.

What to do if my Welch 8905 Water Pump generates excessive smoke or oil mist?
    • T
      tammybrayAug 25, 2025
Excessive smoke or oil mist from the exhaust port of your Welch Water Pump can occur if the pump is overfilled with oil; drain the excess oil. It can also happen if the pump is operating continuously above its maximum operation pressure; consider using a larger capacity pump or modifying your vacuum system.

Why is my Welch Water Pump not achieving its rated pumping speed?
    • C
      Crystal ReyesAug 29, 2025
If your Welch Water Pump isn't achieving its rated pumping speed, it might be running too cold; allow the pump to run until it warms up to its operating temperature. A narrow exhaust or intake line can also restrict performance; install larger inner diameter tubing. Contaminated pump oil can also be a factor; flush and change the pump oil, and use a foreline trap. Additionally, a very dirty trap or intake line can cause this issue; clean out cold traps and replace elements in coaxial and molecular sieve traps, and clean or replace vacuum piping.

Why is the motor of my Welch 8905 excessively noisy?
    • B
      Brandi WrightSep 2, 2025
If the motor of your Welch Water Pump is excessively noisy, the voltage selection may be incorrect. Convert the motor to be compatible with the electrical supply. See Section: 4.03 / 4.04 Changing voltage setting.
