Do you have a question about the Weldclass CutForce CF-45P and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The CutForce CF-45P Plasma Cutter, by Weldclass, is a robust and functional machine designed for plasma cutting applications. It emphasizes market-leading value, features, and durability with a focus on simple and robust construction.

Function Description

The CF-45P is a plasma cutter that uses an electric arc and compressed air to cut through various conductive materials. It offers different cutting modes to optimize performance for various tasks:

  • Normal Cutting: This is the standard mode for general cutting applications.
  • Perforated Cutting: This mode is specifically designed for cutting perforated plate or expanded mesh. In this mode, the plasma arc is maintained even when passing over holes or expansions, preventing the arc from extinguishing, which would happen in Normal Cutting mode.
  • Test Air Mode: This mode continuously opens the compressed air control valve, allowing for testing and setting the air pressure without activating the trigger circuit.

The machine is equipped with an amperage adjustment knob to control the cutting current, allowing for fine-tuning based on material thickness and desired cut quality. It also features indicator lights for power, over-temperature/error, torch error, and cutting active status, providing clear operational feedback.

Important Technical Specifications

The CutForce CF-45P has the following key technical specifications:

  • Part Number: CF-06176
  • Dimensions (L x W x H): 550 x 215 x 415mm (including handle)
  • Weight: 8kg
  • Standard: AS 60974.1
  • Power Supply: 240V +/- 15% 50Hz Single Phase
  • Factory Fitting Supply Plug Rating: 15A
  • Maximum Input Current (I1max): 32A
  • Output Terminal (Earth): Dinse™ style 35-50
  • Protection Class: IP23
  • Cutting Current Output: 20 – 40A
  • Duty Cycle:
    • 40A / 120V @ 35%
    • 30A / 96V @ 45%
    • 30A / 92V @ 100%
  • Nominal Open Circuit (pilot arc) Voltage: 210V

For optimal performance, a reliable and consistent supply of clean, dry compressed air is crucial. The air requirement is a minimum of 120 l/min (4.5cfm) Free Air Delivery (FAD) at 75psi pressure, typically requiring a belt-drive compressor or a direct-drive compressor with a motor power of 2.5HP or greater. The air hose should be a minimum of 3/8" (10mm) in size.

When using a generator, it is recommended to use one with a minimum size of 10kVa for full output and duty cycle, and not less than 8kVa for lighter cutting. The generator should have a Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) rating of no more than 6%.

Usage Features

The CF-45P is designed for user-friendly operation with several features that enhance its usability:

  • Control Panel: The front panel includes a power indicator, amperage knob, mode selection button, and indicator lights for different cutting modes (perforated, normal, air test), cutting active status, torch error, and over-temperature/error.
  • Air Pressure Adjustment: The air regulator adjustment knob (7) and gauge (8) on the machine's rear allow for precise air pressure setting, which is critical for cut quality and consumable life. The optimal air pressure is between 0.45 and 0.5 MPa (65-75psi), set while air is flowing through the torch in 'Test Air' mode.
  • Plasma Torch: The machine is supplied with a Weldclass XPT-40 plasma torch, which includes a spacer to maintain the optimal 2mm distance from the tip to the work piece. This spacer can be removed for tight spots, requiring manual distance control.
  • Cutting Technique: The manual provides guidance on travel speed, piercing the work piece (angling the torch at 30° initially), and direction of cut to achieve square edges. For inside diameters, a counter-clockwise movement is recommended, while for outside diameters, a clockwise movement is suggested.
  • Dross Reduction: Instructions are provided on how to minimize dross (slag) by adjusting travel speed and current. Correct speed results in a clean cut with limited dross, while too fast or too slow speeds can lead to different types of dross.

Maintenance Features

Maintaining the CF-45P ensures its longevity and optimal performance:

  • General Cleaning: Regular cleaning of ventilation slots and the casing is recommended. Electrical components should be cleaned with a soft cloth or brush, avoiding liquid cleaning products, water, solvents, or compressed air, which can force dirt into components.
  • Cable and Torch Inspection: All cables, electrode holders, work leads/clamps, and cutting torches should be checked before use. Worn earth clamps and torch consumable parts (spacer, retaining cap, swirl ring, tip, electrode) should be replaced in a timely manner to prevent damage and maintain cut quality.
  • Air Filtration: The machine comes with a basic air filtration/moisture separator. However, the WELDCLASS PLATINUM Z-20 high-performance air filter is highly recommended as an optional accessory for superior filtration down to 1-micron, which significantly increases torch parts life, reduces consumable costs, and improves cutting performance. The built-in moisture separator is self-draining, with a drain tube (12) exiting from the clear air filter bowl (11).
  • Storage: When not in use, the plasma cutter should be stored in a dry, dust-free, and frost-free environment.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a comprehensive troubleshooting section to help diagnose and resolve common issues such as the torch not powering on, sparks shooting upward, incomplete cuts, dross build-up, arc stops, insufficient penetration, and torch parts wearing quickly.
  • Warranty: The standard warranty is 24 months, extendable to 36 months upon registration within 30 days of purchase. The warranty covers manufacturing faults and faulty materials but excludes damage from misuse, accidents, improper maintenance, or use of non-genuine parts.

Safety is paramount, and the manual provides extensive warnings regarding electrical shock, fumes, fire, and explosive risks. It emphasizes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, ensuring proper ventilation, and following safe work practices.
