Motor will not start – humming
noise.
Excessive drive belt tension. Reduce drive belt tension.
Defective motor bearing, capacitor,
relay, or motor.

Motor overheats.
Motor overloaded.
Reduce pressure on workpiece
while sanding. Let the tool do the
work.
Incorrect size/length of extension
cord.
Choose the proper size and length
of extension cord.
Not using dust collection, or work-
ing in a hot environment
Always use dust collection. Remove
dust from tool housing. Try to move
to a cooler environment.
Motor stalls when load applied to
belt/disc.
Too much force applied to work-
piece.
Reduce pressure on workpiece
while sanding. Let the tool do the
work.
Incorrect size/length of extension
cord.
Choose the proper size and length
of extension cord.
Excessive vibration.
Incorrect sanding belt tension. Adjust sanding belt tension.
Loose drive belt. Increase drive belt tension.
Weak or broken tension spring.

Idler drum is too loose.

Sanding belt stops when workpiece

machine for loose fasteners.
