Adjustment
of
Valve Clearances
CAUTION
TIghten the cylinder
head
bolts to the specified torque before making valve adjustnients.
Adjust the
valve
clearances
when
the engine is cold.
1.
Pull
off the air breather pipe from the rocker
cover,
and
take
off the rocker cover
bolts.
Adjust
the
valve clearan-
ces
at
TOC
(Top
Dead
Center)
for
each
cylinder when
they are on their compression stroke.
2.
Adjust all valve
clearances
attheTop
Dead
Center
(TDC)
of the compression stroke for
each
cylinder.
Take
care
to align
the
TOC
timing mark on
the
crankshaft pulley
ex-
actly with
the
indicator mark on the gear case,
as
shown
on
the
Dlustration
below.
If these marks are not exactly
aligned,
the
valves
may
be pushed up
by
the piston,
depending
on
the position
of
the
cam
lobe.
3.
Confirm that the
valves
do no
move
up
or
down when the
crankshaft
is turned slightly
in
either direction
from
the
TOCmark.
4.
Align
the
mark
(as
shown)
for
TOC
for the No. 1 cylinder
on
its compression stroke and adjust
the
valve clearan-
ces
for both
Intake
and
exhaust
valves for the
No.
1
cylinder
with the engine cold.
5.
When
setting
TOC
for the
No.2
cylinder (or the
No.3
cylinder for the
30B
THREE),
proceed as follows:
A.
For the lOB
TWO
engine
(2
cylinder)
from
TOe
for the
No
..
1 cylinder, rotate the crankshaft
180
° clockwise
(as
viewed from the front
of
the
engine)
and
adjust the
valve clearances for both intake
and
exhaust valves for
the
No.2
cylinder.
B.
For the
30B
THREE
engine
(3
cylinder) from
TOC
for
the
No.
1 cylinder, rotate the crankshaft
240°
clockwise
(as
viewed from the front
of
the engine)
to
position the
No.
3 cylinder at
TOC.
Adjust the
valve
clearances for
both intake
and
exhaust
valves
for the
No.3
cylinder.
Intake
0.010

Exhaust
0.010
inches
(0.25
mm)
ADJUST
VALVES
TO
0.010
IICHES
(1.25

Milk
on
_case
Rotate the
crankshaft
an
additional
240°
clockwise to position the
No.2
cylinder at
TDC.
Adjust the
valve clearances for both intake
and
exhaust
valves
for the No.2 cylinder.
