Overview

This document is a user manual for the Whirlpool Hot & Cold Hidden Bottled Water Cooler, Model No. 8LIECH-BP-WL. It provides comprehensive information regarding the product's function, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Whirlpool 8LIECH-BP-WL is a state-of-the-art water cooler designed to dispense both hot and cold water from hidden bottled water. It utilizes a pump system to draw water from a bottom-loaded 3, 5, or 5.2-gallon standard water bottle into internal reservoirs. A key feature for cold water dispensing is the "Ice Bank" formation in the cold tank, which ensures consistently cold water. For hot water, a proprietary hot water tank design ensures efficient energy use and availability. The dispenser is intended for use with high-quality, bacteriologically safe bottled water only, and using other liquids will void the warranty. It includes LED night lights for visibility and a door switch that activates a reset if the pump stops prematurely during initial setup. The unit also features an intermittent beeping sound and blinking LED night lights to alert users when the water bottle is empty.

Usage Features

  • Bottom-Loading Design: The water bottle is hidden in a compartment at the bottom of the cooler, contributing to a cleaner aesthetic and easier bottle replacement compared to top-loading models.
  • Hot and Cold Dispensing: Separate controls for hot and cold water, with a safety release button for hot water to prevent accidental dispensing.
  • "Ice Bank" Technology: Ensures consistently cold water. Initial formation of the "Ice Bank" can take up to 1 hour after the unit is first plugged in.
  • LED Night Lights: Provides illumination for dispensing in low-light conditions. These lights also blink to indicate an empty water bottle.
  • Empty Bottle Alert: The dispenser beeps intermittently and LED night lights blink when the water bottle is empty. A sucking sound may also be heard.
  • Probe Assembly: Features an adjustable probe (portion B of the tube) that self-adjusts to the appropriate length when inserted into the water bottle.
  • Controls: Includes a red switch for hot water (can be turned OFF if not desired), a blue switch for cold water (can be turned OFF if not desired), and a yellow switch for the LED night lights (ON or OFF).
  • Drip Tray: Designed with circular shapes to help align the flow of water and minimize splashes.
  • Safety Precautions: Emphasizes plugging into a grounded 3-prong outlet, not removing the ground prong, and avoiding adapters or extension cords. It also warns against allowing children to dispense hot water unsupervised and recommends two or more people for moving and installing the cooler and bottles due to excessive weight.
  • Location Requirements: Must be installed in an area protected from elements, on a hard, flat, and level surface, not inside an enclosed space, and with at least 4 inches of clearance on all sides for airflow.

Maintenance Features

  • "Clean Out Of The Box": The water cooler is pre-cleaned and does not require cleaning prior to initial use. However, instructions are provided for optional cleaning.
  • General Cleaning:
    • Clean cabinet surfaces with a soft cloth and warm soapy water.
    • Wipe dust from the back of the dispenser.
    • Remove and wash the drip tray assembly in soapy water.
    • Reattach the drip tray assembly.
  • Descaling (for spring water users):
    • Purpose: To remove calcium deposits that can accumulate in the hot water tank and plumbing, which can slow flow rates and cause other problems.
    • Frequency: Recommended every 3 to 6 months, depending on mineral content and usage.
    • Solutions: White vinegar is recommended. Proportions vary based on frequency:
      • Every three months: 2 cups (500 ml) of white vinegar with 2.5 liters of hot water.
      • Every six months: 6 cups (1500 ml) of white vinegar with 2 liters of hot water.
      • Every year: 12 cups (3000 ml) of white vinegar and 1 liter of hot water.
      • Less frequently than once a year: undiluted white vinegar.
    • Procedure: Involves turning off hot & cold switches, unplugging the cooler, draining water from the rear drain plug, filling a bucket/bottle with the vinegar solution, attaching the probe to it, placing it in the cooler, waiting for 1 hour, draining the solution, rinsing with tap water, and then operating as usual.
  • Troubleshooting: Provides solutions for common issues such as smudgy surfaces, slow-moving buttons, dispenser not operating, water leaking, stuck buttons, no water coming from taps, water not cold/hot, blinking LED night lights/beeping, noisy dispenser, pump not pumping water, and night light not staying on.
  • Customer Support: For service or questions, users are instructed to call 1-855-594-4755 or email Whirlpool@electrotemp.com, and explicitly advised NOT to return the dispenser to the store.
  • Limited Warranty: Covers defects in material and workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. It requires proof of purchase from an authorized retailer and outlines conditions for repair or replacement. The warranty is void if the unit is used with other liquids, or due to improper installation, maintenance, or service by unauthorized parties. It also disclaims liability for incidental, punitive, indirect, or consequential damages.
