SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
Read all instructions before using the dishwasher.
Use the dishwasher only for its intended function.
Use only detergents or rinse agents recommended for use in a
dishwasher, and keep them out of the reach of children.
When loading items to be washed:
1) Locate sharp items so that they are not likely to damage the
door seal; and
2) Load sharp knives with the handles up to reduce the risk of
cut-type injuries.
Do not wash plastic items unless they are marked
“dishwasher safe” or the equivalent. For plastic items not so
marked, check the manufacturer's recommendations.
Do not touch the heating element during or immediately after
use.
Do not operate the dishwasher unless all enclosure panels are
properly in place.
Do not tamper with controls.
Do not abuse, sit on, or stand on the door, lid, or dish racks of
the dishwasher.
To reduce the risk of injury, do not allow children to play in or
on the dishwasher.
Under certain conditions, hydrogen gas may be produced in a
hot water system that has not been used for two weeks or
more. HYDROGEN GAS IS EXPLOSIVE. If the hot water system
has not been used for such a period, before using the
dishwasher turn on all hot water faucets and let the water flow
from each for several minutes. This will release any
accumulated hydrogen gas. As the gas is flammable, do not
smoke or use an open flame during this time.
Remove the door or lid to the washing compartment
when removing an old dishwasher from service or
discarding it.

Overview

This document describes a Whirlpool dishwasher, providing detailed instructions for its operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting. It also includes important safety information and warranty details.

Function Description:

The Whirlpool dishwasher is designed to clean dishes, glassware, pots, pans, and silverware efficiently. It utilizes various wash cycles and options to accommodate different soil levels and user preferences, aiming for superior cleaning performance while minimizing water and energy consumption. Key features include a filtration system for optimized cleaning and reduced noise, and a rinse aid dispenser for improved drying.

Important Technical Specifications:

The dishwasher offers several wash cycles, each with estimated wash times and water usage:

  • Sensor Cycle: The most advanced and versatile cycle. It senses soil amount and toughness to adjust water and energy usage for optimal performance across all soil levels. Estimated wash time: 2:30 (H:MM). Water usage: 3.38 to 7.4 gallons (12.8 to 28.0 liters).
  • Heavy Cycle: Designed for hard-to-clean, heavily soiled pots, pans, casseroles, and tableware. Estimated wash time: 3:28. Water usage: 7.4 gallons (28.1 liters).
  • Normal Cycle: Recommended for completely washing and drying a full load of normally soiled dishes, especially with the Heated Dry option. This cycle is the basis for the energy usage label. Estimated wash time: 2:32. Water usage: 2.4 to 7.4 gallons (9.09 to 28 liters).
  • 1-Hour Wash: Provides fast results, cleaning dishes using more water and energy. The Heat Dry option is recommended for best drying performance. Suitable for all soil levels. Estimated wash time: 1:00. Water usage: 7.87 gallons (29.8 liters).
  • Soak & Clean Cycle: Quietly soaks dishes with an extended prewash, eliminating the need for presoaking. Prewash detergent is recommended for optimal cleaning of heavy amounts of dried-on or baked-on food. Estimated wash time: 7:31. Water usage: 7.4 gallons (28.0 liters).

Available options that can be combined with cycles:

  • TargetClean™: Activates spray jets for intensified water spray on the lower rack. Adds 0:12 to 0:57 to cycle time and 0 to 4.8 gallons (0 to 18.2 liters) of water. Raises main wash temperature from 105°F (41°C) to 120°F (49°C).
  • Hi Temp Wash: Raises main wash temperature to 135°F (57°C) for improved cleaning of tough, baked-on food. Adds 0:05 to 0:13 to cycle time and 0 to 3.86 gallons (0 to 14.6 liters) of water.
  • Sani Rinse: Sanitizes dishes and glassware according to NSF International NSF/ANSI Standard 184. Raises main wash temperature to 135°F (57°C) and final rinse temperature to 156°F (69°C). Adds 0:05 to 1:06 to cycle time and 0 to 3.86 gallons (0 to 14.6 liters) of water.
  • Heat Dry: Uses a heating element to speed drying. Defaults to ON for most cycles except 1-Hour Wash. Adds 0:08 to 0:46 to cycle time and no additional water.
  • Delay: Delays the start of a cycle for up to 24 hours. Adds no time or water.

Usage Features:

  1. Preparation and Loading:
    • Remove leftover food, bones, toothpicks, and labels from dishes.
    • Ensure no items block the detergent dispenser when the door is closed.
    • Load dishes with soiled surfaces facing down and inward for optimal spray coverage.
    • Avoid overlapping items.
    • Place plastics, small plates, and glasses in the upper rack.
    • Only wash items marked "dishwasher safe."
    • Secure lightweight items to prevent thumping/clattering.
    • Use silverware slots, placing sharp items pointing down and avoiding "nesting."
    • The Anyware™ Silverware Basket can be placed in the door or in the lower rack.
  2. Top Rack Adjuster (on some models): Allows raising or lowering the top rack to fit tall items. Adjusters are on each side.
    • To raise/lower with adjuster 1: Hold the rack, pull out the adjuster, and move to a preset position.
    • To raise with adjuster 2: Lift and pull up. To lower: Lift up and let down.
    • To raise with adjuster 3: Lift until both sides are at the same height and lock. To lower: Depress both tabs and lower.
  3. Filtration System: The dishwasher features an advanced filtration system for quiet operation, water/energy conservation, and superior cleaning. Filters must be properly installed to avoid damage and ensure performance.
  4. Detergent: Use only automatic dishwasher detergent. Fresh detergent provides better cleaning. Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place. Premeasured forms (gel packs, tablets, or powder packs) are recommended for convenience and to reduce filming.
  5. Rinse Aid: Essential for good drying performance and to prevent spots/streaks. Dispensed during each cycle. To add, open the dispenser lid by pushing in the center and lifting up the edge. Fill until the indicator shows "Full." Adjust the arrow adjuster to a higher setting for improved drying.
  6. Starting a Cycle:
    • Run hot water at the nearest sink until hot, then turn off.
    • Select desired cycle and options.
    • Press START/RESUME.
    • If the START/RESUME button is on top of the door, close the door firmly within 3 seconds of pressing the button. If not, the LED will flash, an audible tone will sound, and the cycle will not start.
    • If the door is opened during a cycle (e.g., to add a dish), START/RESUME must be pressed again to resume.
  7. Control Lock: To prevent unintended use, press and hold SANI RINSE/CONTROL LOCK or DELAY (depending on model) for 3 seconds. The light will indicate activation, and all buttons will be disabled. To turn off, press and hold again for 3 seconds.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Clean the exterior with a soft, damp cloth and mild detergent. For stainless steel exteriors, use a stainless steel cleaner (part number 31462A).
  • Hard Water/Filming Removal: Monthly use of a dishwasher cleaner (e.g., affresh® dishwasher cleaner, part number W10282479) is recommended.
    • Load the dishwasher (preferably with filmed dishes or those previously washed with hard water).
    • Place the tablet in the main wash compartment.
    • Select an appropriate cycle/option for heavily soiled dishes and start.
  • Vacation/Extended Non-Use: To reduce the risk of property damage:
    • Turn off the water supply and electrical power if not using the dishwasher during summer.
    • Ensure water supply lines are protected from freezing to prevent damage from ice formation.
    • For winter storage, have the dishwasher winterized by an authorized service personnel.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the dishwasher not starting, not cleaning completely, or making unusual noises. It directs users to www.whirlpool.com/product_help or www.whirlpool.ca for further assistance.
