Do you have a question about the Wissner-Bosserhoff sentida sc and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The sentida sc is a low-set nursing home bed designed for use in retirement and nursing homes, as well as comparable facilities. It is classified as a Class I medical device according to Annex VIII, #13 of the Medical Device Directive (MDR) 2017/745. The bed is designed for a service life of up to 15 years and is extremely low-maintenance.

Function Description

The sentida sc nursing home bed offers a variety of adjustable positions, including backrest, thighrest, and overall height adjustment, all controlled via the SafeControl handset. The bed's movements are powered by multiple motors. It features a first-fault safety feature on the handset to prevent accidental adjustments.

Handset Functions: The SafeControl handset allows for individual adjustment of the backrest and synchronous adjustment of the backrest and legrest to achieve a seating position. The entire bed's height can be adjusted without influencing the bedding area's position. An automatic comfort seating function moves the bed to a preset sitting position. The handset also includes an automatic prevention function. Additional functions include individual thighrest adjustment, a nursing position, and an individual entry/exit position. Underbed lighting (optional) and a reading light (accessory) can also be switched on and off via the handset.

Mode Change and Locking: The handset can be switched to "care mode" by pressing and holding the comfort position or prevention automatic button for at least 3 seconds. To lock the handset, the backrest and height adjustment buttons must be pressed simultaneously for at least 5 seconds until the LED briefly lights up yellow and then permanently green.

Emergency Lowering: In an emergency, the backrest can be manually lowered using a tubular folding plug or a CPR release. The tubular folding plug involves removing a clip and sliding a bracket to release the lying surface. The CPR release is located at the top of the backrest; the backrest must be held by the mattress restraining bar before activating the lever to prevent sudden dropping.

Braking System: The bed is available in residential and mobile variants.

  • Residential variant: Features an axis-wise and central braking system with brake levers under the head part and footrest to lock castors axle by axle.
  • Mobile variant: Equipped with a central braking system. The brake bar can be operated with the foot in three positions: brake, freely movable, and direction detection (blocks swivel movement of the left head-end castor for easier maneuvering).

Legrest Adjustment: The legrest section is height-adjustable mechanically via ratchets. It can be lifted by hand, snapping into the desired position, or lowered by lifting it to the stop and then pushing it down.

Siderails: The sentida sc offers two types of siderails:

  • SafeFree® divided siderails: These are divided into two parts on each side of the bed and can be extended in 4 steps up to a height of 15.75 inches (400 mm). Release buttons are located on the bottom of each outer end of the handrail.
    • Stages: Accessibility (lowered), Mobilization (3/4 protection at 9.72 inches/247 mm), Security (full protection at 13.74 inches/349 mm), and Increased Safety (increased protection at 16.02 inches/407 mm for higher mattress thickness).
  • Continuous siderails (type 09): Available with two or three tie bars. They are lifted by grasping the lower edge until the release button engages and lowered by lifting the siderail by the release button and pushing it in the direction of the arrow.

Bed Extensions: The bed offers two methods for extending the bedding area:

  • Permanent (fixed) extension: Can be supplied by the manufacturer or carried out by authorized specialists, extending the bedding area by 3.93 inches (10 cm) or 7.87 inches (20 cm).
  • Temporary extension (wing screw/snapper): The footrest can be lengthened by 3.93 inches (10 cm) or 7.87 inches (20 cm) and shortened again without tools. This involves loosening wing screws or pulling out catches and turning them 90 degrees.

Usage Features

  • Delivery and Setup: The bed is usually delivered fully assembled or assembled on site. Users must check for completeness and damage upon delivery. Proper floor covering and sufficient safety clearance around the bed (2.5 cm from objects, 20 cm from head part) are crucial during setup.
  • Moving and Braking: The bed is movable for room cleaning but not suitable for transporting residents. It should only be moved in the lowest position and without a resident. Castors must always be in the braked position when unattended to prevent falls.
  • Handset Relocation: The handset can be moved from one side of the bed to the other by releasing it from its holder, guiding the cable under the bedding area, and re-threading it through the horizontal and vertical holders on the desired side.
  • Mattresses: Only suitable, compatible mattresses should be used. Waterbed mattresses are not permitted due to the risk of exceeding the safe working load. Replacement mattresses must be of identical dimensions and have movement incisions to avoid impairing adjustment functions or overloading drives. Recommended minimum density is 40 kg/m³.
  • Accessories: A range of compatible accessories is available, including:
    • Lights/lighting: Soluna LED and lymera LED reading lights, and switchable underbed lighting.
    • Mobilization: MobiStick 2 bedside control for individual mobilization.
    • Supply: IV poles (max. 17 lbs/8 kg total load, 4 lbs/2 kg per hook) and telescopic wall spacers.
    • Protection and safety: SafeSense® bed-exit systems (cabled or radio-controlled), call receivers, adapter cables for nurse call systems, attachments for SafeFree® siderails to increase side protection, sideboard padding/nets to reduce gaps, side section guards, falls prevention mats, and evacuation sheets.
    • Other accessories: SafeControl handset (10-0790), battery operation (24V, 1.2Ah lead-gel battery, 5-year service life), bed transport trolley, name tag holder, serving tray, and 3/4 side rails.

Maintenance Features

  • Regular Maintenance: Bed operators are obligated to maintain the safe condition of medical devices through regular, professional maintenance and safety checks. The safety inspection (STÜ and DGUV Regulation 3) should take place at 12-month intervals, with potential extension to 2 years if a defect rate of less than 2% is achieved.
  • Inspection Sequence: According to IEC 62353-VDE 0751-1, inspections include visual inspection, electrical measurement, and function test.
  • Cleaning and Disinfection: The bed must be cleaned and disinfected at regular intervals (e.g., daily, at resident change, and before first use). Disconnect the bed from the mains before cleaning. Only neutral or weakly alkaline all-purpose cleaners with specific pH and alcohol content should be used. Lacquered wooden components require special care due to moisture sensitivity.
  • Padding Cleaning: Soiling on padding should be removed immediately. Imitation leather can be cleaned with lukewarm water and mild soapy water. Fabrics can be cleaned with warm water and dishwashing liquid.
  • Troubleshooting: A troubleshooting guide is provided for common issues such as electromotive adjustments not performing, error tones, siderail malfunction, castor issues, and handset problems.
  • Repairs: Defective beds must be repaired immediately by the manufacturer's customer service or certified personnel. The bed must be blocked from operation until repaired and cleared for use.
  • Storage: When storing the bed, disconnect the power plug, remove all accessories and the battery, cover the bed for protection, and note the storage date. The bed requires acclimatization time if stored or transported at low temperatures.
