Overview

This document describes the WORKHORSE SPRAYERS Deluxe ATV 2 Nozzle Sprayer, models ATV 1502 and ATV 2502, manufactured by PSE®, a Division of Green Leaf, Inc. It serves as an assembly, operation, and maintenance manual for the product.

Function Description:

The Workhorse Deluxe ATV 2 Nozzle Sprayer is designed for lawn and garden applications, utilizing a pumping system to draw solution from a tank, through a strainer, and to a diaphragm pump. The pump then forces the solution under pressure to the boom nozzles and a spray wand. The system features a pressure switch that automatically shuts off the pump when it reaches 60 PSI, preventing over-pressurization. Pressure can be regulated by opening or closing a valve located on the top of the tank. The sprayer is equipped with two boom nozzles that provide an 80-inch wide spray swath, and a lever handgun for more targeted application. The unit is designed for attachment to an ATV, featuring a quick-attach mounting system.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Tank: Polyethylene, available in 25 Gallon (ATV 1502) and 15 Gallon (ATV 2502) capacities.
  • Boom Assembly: 2 Nozzle Boom Assembly, providing 80 inches of coverage with check valves and filters. Nozzles can be rotated rearward 15° for optimal spray pattern.
  • Pump: 12 Volt Diaphragm Pump, with a flow rate of 2.2 GPM (other pump options for 4.0 GPM and 5.0 GPM are mentioned as dependent on model purchased).
  • Pressure Range: Adjustable, with a maximum of 60 PSI. A pressure gauge (0-100 PSI) is included.
  • Handgun: Lever Handgun with 15 feet of 3/8" hose.
  • Mounting System: Quick Attach Mounting System for ATV integration.
  • Electrical: 12 VDC permanent magnet motor, totally enclosed, non-ventilated. Leads are 18 AWG, 12" long. The pump is controlled by a built-in pressure sensing demand switch.
  • Materials of Construction (Pump): Housing: Polypropylene, Diaphragm: Santoprene, Valves: Viton, Fasteners: Stainless steel.
  • Weight (Pump): 6 lbs (2.7 kg).
  • Liquid Temperature (Pump): 140°F (60°C) Max.
  • Priming Capabilities (Pump): 14 feet (4 m).
  • Fuse: 7.5 amp recommended for replacement.
  • Spray Wand Range: 35 feet max.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: Detailed instructions are provided for installing ATV Boom Mounts, Helix Levers, Drain Cap Assembly, Lead Wire Assembly, Spray Boom Assembly (including angle brackets, U-bolts, clamps, fittings, check valves/strainers, and spray tips), Wand Hose Assembly, and connecting electrical components. Proper orientation of parts is emphasized.
  • Calibration: The manual includes tip charts to assist users in determining spraying pressure (PSI) and speed (MPH) based on desired application rates (gallons per acre, gallons per 1000 sq. ft., or gallons per 100 sq. ft.). A speed chart helps determine ground speed by measuring travel time over set distances (100, 200, or 300 feet). Optimal spraying is typically found in the 20 to 30 PSI range.
  • Operation: Users are instructed to add water and chemicals, turn the boom control valve to "ON," and activate the pump. The system pressure will decrease slightly when spraying begins but returns to normal when the control valve is turned "OFF."
  • Pressure Adjustment: The lever on the manifold body adjusts system pressure by relieving liquid back to the tank, increasing or decreasing pressure to both the spray wand and boom. The pressure switch can also be adjusted by turning a setscrew clockwise to increase OFF pressure and counter-clockwise to decrease, though excessive adjustment is cautioned against.
  • Boom Control: The lever also turns the spray boom on and off.
  • Safety Warnings: Emphasizes flushing the pump with water after use to prevent chemical damage, following chemical manufacturers' disposal instructions, and reading chemical labels carefully. Warnings regarding operating in explosive environments, near low-temperature plastics or combustible materials, and pumping flammable liquids are included. Electrical shock hazards are highlighted, advising disconnection of power before work and consultation with an electrician if uncertain. California Proposition 65 warning regarding lead exposure is also present.

Maintenance Features:

  • Post-Spraying Cleaning: After use, the sprayer should be filled partially with water, and clear water pumped through the system. Refilling with water and a chemical neutralizer (e.g., Nutra-Sol®) and flushing is recommended. Tips and screens should be removed, washed, blown out, and dried before storage.
  • Winter Storage: All water and chemicals must be drained, with special attention to the pump and valves, which are prone to damage from chemicals and freezing. Pumping RV antifreeze through the plumbing system is recommended for winterization.
  • Regular Inspection: Regularly inspect the suction supply screen inside the tank and flush with water to clear debris.
  • Servicing (Pump): Annual system checks against operating standards are recommended. Every 2-3 years, replacing the diaphragm and checking against operating standards is advised.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: A comprehensive guide addresses common issues such as the pump not starting, not shutting off, not priming, low flow, or fuse blowing. It provides potential causes and remedies, including checking electrical connections, voltage, fuses, strainer, and pressure switch adjustments.
  • Warranty: Workhorse products are warranted for one year against manufacturing or workmanship defects for personal or homeowner use (90 days for commercial users), with proof of purchase. Unauthorized modification voids the warranty.
  • Parts and Service: Users are advised to contact their authorized dealer for replacement parts and service, providing part description, part number, model number, and serial number. For warranty work, the original sales slip or proof of purchase date is required.
  • Return Safety Instructions: When returning a pump for warranty or repair, users must flush chemical residue, tag the pump with the type of chemicals sprayed, and include a complete description of the problem to ensure safety for handlers and aid in diagnosis.
