What to do if my Worx Trimmer machine does not cut?
    • K
      Kelly OchoaAug 13, 2025
If your Worx Trimmer isn't cutting, it might be due to several reasons. The cutting line could be broken, in which case you should replace it. The battery might not be fully charged, so ensure it's fully charged. A broken motor (resulting in low speed) can also be the cause, requiring a motor replacement. Finally, check for grass entangled around the cutting head and clear it away.

Why is the cutting time per battery charge too low with my Worx Trimmer?
    • M
      Mario SchultzAug 17, 2025
If the cutting time per battery charge is too low on your Worx Trimmer, it could be because the battery hasn't been used for a long period or has only been charged for a short time; use the battery regularly. If the grass is too high, cut it to a manageable height. Also, the battery might be defective, in which case, you should replace it.

Overview

The WORX WG168 is a versatile 2-in-1 Grass Trimmer/Edger designed for efficient lawn care. This cordless tool operates on a 40V MAX Lithium battery, offering freedom of movement without the constraints of power cords.

Function Description

The primary function of the WG168 is to trim grass and edge lawns. It seamlessly transitions between these two modes, allowing users to maintain their yard with a single tool. As a grass trimmer, it cuts grass in areas that mowers cannot reach, such as around trees, fences, and garden beds. In edger mode, it provides clean, crisp lines along sidewalks, driveways, and other hard surfaces, giving the lawn a professional finish.

The device features an automatic line feed system, which simplifies operation by automatically extending the cutting line as needed. This ensures continuous cutting without manual intervention during use. The trimmer head is designed to rotate 180 degrees for easy conversion from trimming to edging.

Usage Features

The WG168 is designed for user comfort and ease of use. It includes an auxiliary handle that can be adjusted to the most comfortable and balanced position, reducing strain during operation. The main handle also features a shaft locking knob to ensure the handle is firmly secured in place.

For power control, the tool is equipped with a safety ON/OFF switch, which helps prevent accidental starting. Users must depress the lock-off switch and the ON/OFF lever simultaneously to start the trimmer. Releasing the ON/OFF lever stops the tool. A key safety feature is that the cutting head continues to rotate briefly after the trimmer is switched off, so users should wait for it to stop completely before setting the tool down.

The WG168 offers three speed settings, allowing users to select the appropriate power for different tasks:

  • Speed 1: Ideal for basic, light trimming of short grass.
  • Speed 2: Suitable for medium to longer grass trimming, such as around walls or fences.
  • Speed 3: Designed for tough, overgrown areas with long grass.

The battery pack is easily removable and installable. To remove, users simply depress the battery release button. To install, the battery pack is inserted into the trimmer's battery port until a click is heard, indicating it is securely in place. The battery status LEDs provide a quick visual indication of the battery's charge level, helping users plan their work and recharge when necessary. Three green lights indicate a highly charged condition, two lights a moderately charged condition, and one green light signifies a depleted battery. It is important to recharge when only one light is illuminated to prolong battery life and performance.

When trimming, the user should position the trimmer head just above the ground at an angle, allowing only the tip of the line to make contact with the grass. For edging, the trimmer head is rotated 180 degrees. The integrated edge guide helps protect the unit and maintains a consistent cutting depth, preventing contact with the ground.

Maintenance Features

Maintaining the WORX WG168 is straightforward, focusing on ensuring the cutting line is in good condition and keeping the tool clean.

The automatic line feed system means less manual intervention, but users may need to manually feed the line if it becomes tangled or used up. This involves pressing the line feed button while gently pulling out the line until it reaches the desired length. If too much line is fed out, the spool cap can be removed, and the spool turned counter-clockwise to retract the excess line.

Replacing the trimmer line and spool is a simple process. The spool cap is removed by pressing and holding the two release latches. The old spool is then removed, and any broken line or debris is cleared from the spool area. A new replacement spool, preferably preinstalled with trimmer line, is then inserted. The line from the new spool is threaded through the eyelet of the spool holder, and the spool is placed into the holder with the cut-out areas facing inward or down. The smooth side of the spool should be visible. Finally, the spool cap cover is refitted, ensuring it is firmly located in position.

For those who prefer to manually wind line, approximately 20 feet (6 meters) of 0.08-inch (2.0mm) diameter line can be inserted into the spool holes and wound in the direction of the arrows on the top of the spool. About 4 inches (100mm) of line should be left unwound and placed into the cleat, ensuring the line is neatly coiled for efficient automatic feeding.

Regular maintenance also includes keeping the tool clean. Users should never use water or chemical cleaners; instead, the tool should be wiped clean with a dry cloth. It is important to keep the motor ventilation slots clean and all working controls free of dust.

For safety, users are always reminded to remove the battery pack before adjusting, cleaning, servicing, or transporting the lawn trimmer. The tool should be stored in a dry place where it and the battery can be protected from damage, and out of reach of children. The charger and battery pack are specifically designed to work together, and no other devices or metallic objects should be inserted into their connections.
