Firmware Update
The rmware update buon is the physical SW1/FWUEN push buon located on the KV260
Starter Kit carrier card. The buon is used to support two features:
1. To force the plaorm into a recovery mode applicaon during power-on. The recovery
applicaon is described in the Ethernet Recovery Tool secon of this document.
2. Security mechanism to prevent remote update of the boot rmware, without the user being
physically present.
Ethernet Recovery Tool
The Ethernet recovery tool is a small applicaon included in the Xilinx provided KV260 Starter
Kit QSPI image. It provides a simple Ethernet-based interface and applicaon for updang the
boot rmware. This applicaon and interface is iniated by holding the rmware update buon
during the power-on sequence. The applicaon uses a xed IP address of 192.168.0.111. The
following gure shows an overview of the set-up.

The Ethernet recovery tool provides a mechanism for updang either of the dynamic boot
parons within the primary boot device if Linux is not funconal. If Linux is funconal, the
recommendaon is to update the boot rmware using the xmutil boot rmware update
ulies. The associated update content is a Xilinx XCK26 binary boot image captured as
BOOT.BIN. To support plaorm recovery, the KV260 Starter Kit factory BOOT.BIN image is
made available on the Xilinx SOM Geng Started web page. You can also use this tool when
customizing the plaorms boot rmware with your own BOOT.BIN generated through the Xilinx
Vis and PetaLinux tools.
