Overview

The XTERRA Fitness MB550 Indoor Cycle is a robust and user-friendly exercise bike designed for residential use, offering a comprehensive and engaging cycling experience. This manual provides detailed instructions for assembly, operation, and maintenance, ensuring a safe and effective workout.

Function Description

The MB550 Indoor Cycle serves as a stationary exercise bike, allowing users to engage in cardiovascular workouts and improve their fitness from the comfort of their home. It features a flywheel system that provides resistance for pedaling, simulating various terrains and intensities. The bike is equipped with a console that tracks key workout metrics, helping users monitor their progress and tailor their exercise routines. The design emphasizes stability and adjustability, accommodating a wide range of users and ensuring a comfortable and ergonomic riding position.

Usage Features

The MB550 Indoor Cycle offers several features designed to enhance the user experience and provide a customizable workout:

  • Adjustable Resistance: The pedaling resistance is controlled by a tension knob. Turning the knob clockwise increases resistance, making the workout more challenging, while turning it counterclockwise decreases resistance for an easier ride. This allows users to easily adjust the intensity of their workout at any time.
  • Braking System: To stop the flywheel, users can press down on the tension knob, which acts as a brake. It is recommended to apply the brake or increase resistance to bring the flywheel to a complete stop before dismounting for safety.
  • Console with Multi-Display: The bike includes a console that provides real-time feedback on various workout parameters. The console features a large, easy-to-read display and offers multiple modes:
    • Watch Feature: Displays time of day and includes a stopwatch function.
    • Cycling Feature: Tracks trip distance, current speed, average speed with indicator, max speed, and allows for display in miles or kilometers. It also includes an auto-timer (ATM) and odometer.
    • Motion Activity Display: Shows motion activity when the user starts riding, with the icon acting quickly for faster workouts.
    • User Settings: Allows users to input personal data such as gender, weight, and units for more accurate exercise results.
    • KCAL Mode: Records calories consumed from the beginning of the workout.
    • SCAN Mode: Automatically scans and displays current active results in different modes (CLK, TM, MXS, AVS, DST, ODO, KCAL) every 4 seconds.
    • Wheel Size Setting: Users can set the wheel size from 100mm to 6999mm for precise measurement. The ODO value is set at 4330mm when new batteries are installed.
  • Adjustable Seat Position: The seat height can be adjusted to match the user's hip height, ensuring a slight bend in the knee (about 5 degrees) when the foot is at the bottom of the pedal stroke. The seat also offers forward/aft adjustment, allowing users to position themselves correctly relative to the pedals, with the small bump at the top of the shin above the pedal axle for proper road bike training posture. Quick-release levers facilitate easy and secure adjustments.
  • Adjustable Handlebar Position: The handlebar height is adjustable to suit individual preference, allowing for a more upright or crouched riding position. The handlebars also offer forward/aft adjustment, enabling users to comfortably grasp them with a slight bend at the elbow. Quick-release levers ensure secure positioning.
  • Pedal Straps: The pedals are equipped with nylon foot straps that can be adjusted to secure the user's feet. To increase the opening, depress the spring-loaded clasp and pull the nylon strap. To tighten, depress the clasp and pull the open end of the strap until it is snug around each foot. Note that the left pedal has a reverse-threaded bolt and tightens counterclockwise.
  • Water Bottle Holder: A convenient water bottle holder is integrated into the main frame, allowing users to stay hydrated during their workouts.
  • Stabilizer Tubes with Wheels: The front stabilizer bar includes wheels, making it easier to move the indoor cycle when needed.
  • Pre-Assembly and Setup: The manual provides clear instructions for unpacking and initial setup, including cutting the box, inspecting parts, and locating hardware. It emphasizes tightening all bolts and nuts securely and adjusting the four levelers to ensure the unit sits flat and stable on the ground.

Maintenance Features

Proper maintenance is crucial for ensuring the longevity and safe operation of the MB550 Indoor Cycle. The manual outlines a maintenance schedule and guidelines:

  • Regular Examination: Users should regularly examine the bike for any damage or wear. Inoperable components must be replaced immediately, and the equipment should not be used until it is repaired.
  • Pedals: Before each use, ensure that the pedals are tight in the crank arms, all screws on the pedals are tight, and the pedal straps are not frayed.
  • Frame Cleaning: The frame should be wiped down daily using a soft, damp, clean cloth and water to keep it clean.
  • Flywheel Cleaning: The flywheel should be wiped down weekly by spraying WD-40 on a rag and applying a light coat to the sides of the flywheel.
  • Brake Pad Inspection: Inspect the brake pad weekly for excessive wear or squealing.
  • Console Cleaning: The console should be cleaned with a clean, damp cloth. Caustic cleaning solutions should be avoided as they can void the warranty. The console is water-resistant, not waterproof, so excessive exposure to water should be prevented.
  • Battery Replacement: If no digits are shown on the LCD, the console battery may need replacement. The transmitter also uses user-changeable batteries.
  • Lubricants and Cleaning Solutions: Only specified lubricants and cleaning solutions should be used. Using others can diminish performance and shorten the life span of parts.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual includes a troubleshooting section for common issues like no display on the console (suggesting holding down a key, checking batteries, or installing fresh ones) and cadence number jumps (suggesting separating bikes with the same console code, re-synchronizing the transmitter and console, or relocating the bike away from RF interference areas).

By following these detailed instructions for usage and maintenance, users can ensure a safe, effective, and enjoyable fitness experience with their XTERRA Fitness MB550 Indoor Cycle.
