REMOVING THE CYLINDER HEAD
1. Remove:
• Crankcase cover (left)
Refer to “GENERATOR” on page 5-46.
2. Align:
• “T” mark “a” on the AC magneto
(with the match mark “b” on the crankcase)

a. Turn the AC magneto counterclockwise.
b. When the piston is on the compression
stroke, align the AC magneto “T” mark “a”
with the mark “b” on the crankcase. (TDC)

3. Remove:
• Oil delivery pipe “1”
4. Remove:
• Cylinder head cover assembly “1”
• Loosen bolts and nuts in a crisscross pattern.
• Loosen each bolt and nut 1/2 of a turn at a
time. After all of the bolts and nuts are fully
loosened, remove them.
5. Loosen:
• Camshaft sprocket bolt
While holding the AC magneto “1” with the rotor
holding tool “2”, loosen the camshaft sprocket
bolt.
6. Remove:
• Timing chain tensioner cap
• Timing chain tensioner assembly
• Camshaft sprocket bolt “1”
• Timing chain “2”
• Camshaft sprocket “3”
• Camshaft “4”
To prevent the timing chain from falling into the
crankcase, fasten it with a wire.
