90 2V Operation Manual
1. Perform the next Preventive Maintenance
procedure. For example, if there are 40 hours
before the 400 hour maintenance, you should
do it before you place the engine in storage.
See the Periodic Maintenance Schedule on
page 70.
2. Put diesel fuel stabilizer in the fuel tank
according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Run the engine according to the manufacturer’s
instructions.
3. Drain and flush the engine cooling system.
Refill with Long Life Engine Coolant. For engine
coolant specifications see Engine Coolant
Specifications on page 39 and for the
procedure for draining and refilling the cooling
system see Filling Radiator With Engine
Coolant on page 39.
4. Clean the exterior of the engine so it is free of
grease and oil.
5. Place a poly vinyl chloride (PVC) cover on the
exhaust manifold outlet and inlet of the intake
manifold to prevent rust from forming on
internal components.
6. Apply a rust preventive “fogging” oil into the
cylinders.
7. Apply a thin coat of “anti-rust” agent to any bare
steel engine surface.
8. Crank the engine by hand every four to six
months.
9. Grease exposed parts of the engine speed
control system.
10. Protect the air cleaner, muffler and electrical
components (alternator, starter motor,
switches) from water and dust.
11. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable to
prevent the battery from discharging.
12. Check the battery electrolyte level and add
clean distilled water if required.
13. Charge the battery once a month during
storage.
14. Keep a record of all maintenance performed.
15. Failure to comply with these procedures may
affect the engine warranty.

servicing the engine and when using
compressed air or high-pressure
water. Dust, flying debris, compressed
air, pressurized water, or steam may
injure your eyes.
Failure to comply may result in minor
or moderate injury.
