Engine Oil
Bleeding the Fuel System
The fuel system needs to be bled under certain
conditions. See Bleeding the Fuel System on
page 6-29.
Starting the engine for the first time.
After running out of fuel and fuel has been added
to the fuel tank.
After fuel system maintenance such as changing
fuel filters, draining the fuel filter / water
separator, or replacing a fuel system component.
IMPORTANT
NEVER crank the engine using the starter
motor to prime the fuel system. This may
cause the starter motor to overheat and
damage the starter.
ENGINE OIL
Engine Oil Specifications
Use an engine oil that meets or exceeds the
following guidelines and classifications:
Service Categories
ACEA Service Categories E-3, E-4, and E-5
Definitions
ACEA Classification (Association des
Constructeurs Européens d’Automobilies)
Be sure the engine oil, engine oil storage
containers, and engine oil filling equipment are free
of sediment and water.
Change the engine oil after the first 50 hours of
operation and then at every 250 hours (or annually)
thereafter.
Choose engine oil from the table Recommended
Engine Oil on page 3-12.
Yanmar does not recommend the use of engine oil
“additives.
Engine Oil Viscosity
Select the appropriate engine oil viscosity based on
the ambient temperature shown in the SAE Service
Grade Viscosity Chart (Figure 3-10).

CAUTION
Only use the engine oil specified.
Other engine oils may affect warranty
coverage, cause internal engine
components to seize and / or shorten
engine life.
Prevent dirt and debris from
contaminating the engine oil. Carefully
clean the dipstick and the surrounding
area before you remove the cap.
NEVER mix different types of engine
oil. This may adversely affect the
lubricating properties of the engine oil.
NEVER overfill. Overfilling may result
in white exhaust smoke, engine
overspeed or internal damage.
