Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the YARD FORCE EM N34A / SLM34L electric lawn mower. It provides important information on how to set up, operate, and maintain the product safely and effectively.

Function Description

The YARD FORCE EM N34A / SLM34L is an electric lawn mower exclusively designed for mowing private lawns. It is intended for private use only and is not suitable for commercial applications. The device is designed to cut dry and level lawns, and is not suitable for wildflower meadows, uncultivated meadows, or strongly overgrown lawns with high weeds. The primary function is to cut grass, and it can be operated with or without a collecting bag. When used without the collecting bag, it functions for mulching, suitable for trimming the lawn just a little shorter (maximum 2 cm).

Usage Features

The lawn mower is equipped with several features to ensure ease of use and safety during operation:

  • Handle Grip (Top) and Handle Mount: The upper handle provides a comfortable grip for maneuvering the mower. The handle position can be adjusted to a comfortable working height by undoing the quick-release levers on the handle mount, setting the handle to the desired height, ensuring the serrations of the locking washer engage correctly, and then flicking the quick-release levers back into place.
  • Safety Switch with Power Cable and Safety Bar: To start the motor, the button on the safety switch must be pressed and held, and the safety bar pulled towards the handle. Releasing the safety bar stops the motor, though the blade will continue to run for a short period. The motor should only be turned on when the device is placed on grass.
  • Pull Relief for the Power Cable: This feature helps secure the power cable, preventing it from being pulled out accidentally during operation. The power cable should be laid out along the perimeter of the lawn and secured on the pull relief before plugging into a properly installed socket.
  • Quick-Release Levers (Handle Joint and Handle Mount): These levers facilitate the assembly and adjustment of the handle. They allow for easy folding of the handle for storage or transport.
  • Lower Handle and Connecting Pieces: The lower handle connects to the motor unit and provides structural support for the upper handle. Connecting pieces with locking washers ensure a secure attachment to the handle mount.
  • Collecting Bag with Fill Level Indicator: The lawn mower comes with a collecting bag to gather grass cuttings. A fill level indicator rises when the motor is running and the bag is empty, and rests when the bag is full, signaling that it needs to be emptied. The bag is attached by lifting the safety flap and hooking it into position.
  • Discharge Flap: This flap covers the discharge chute. It must be kept closed when mulching or when using the collecting bag. Care must be taken when moving the discharge flap to avoid damage due to spring action.
  • Cutting Height Lever: The cutting height can be adjusted between approximately 20 and 70 mm, with 6 available positions. To adjust, hold the device by the carry handle, pull the lever out of its arrester, slide it to the desired level, and then engage it properly again.
  • Carry Handle: A dedicated carry handle allows for easy lifting and transport of the device.
  • Cable Clamps: Two cable clamps are provided to attach the connection cable securely to the handle frame, ensuring it runs beneath the crossbar of the bottom part of the handle and does not interfere with operation.
  • Operation Guidelines: Users are advised to mow slowly, avoid using the entire cutting width to maintain even grass cutting at high rotation speed, and remove any obstacles like branches, pegs, stones, strings, and molehills before mowing. The device should always be pushed forward, never pulled, to prevent damage to the power cable. Mowing should be done diagonally on inclinations, and wet grass should be avoided to prevent slipping. The device should not be operated on areas with an inclination above 20%.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and inspection are crucial for maintaining the device in perfect working order and ensuring its longevity.

  • Cleaning After Each Use:
    • Stop the motor and wait until the blade is completely still.
    • Disconnect the power cable from the socket and remove it from the pull relief.
    • Thoroughly empty the collecting bag.
    • Remove cuttings from the device and the collecting bag using a hand brush.
    • Tip the device on its side to remove cuttings from the discharge chute and blade compartment with a hand brush or brush.
    • Check the blade for damaged spots and wear. A damaged or worn blade should be sharpened or exchanged by a specialist workshop.
    • Set the device upright again and check all connections (handle, collecting bag) for a tight fit.
    • The device should be allowed to dry completely before storage to prevent mold formation from residual moisture and cuttings.
  • General Maintenance: The device is principally maintenance-free, requiring no lubrication or readjustment of parts. However, an annual check is recommended for:
    • Free wheel movement.
    • Function and free movement of the cutting height adjuster.
    • Function and free movement of the discharge flap.
    • Damage to the device, such as broken housing parts or a worn collecting bag.
  • Storage:
    • Store the device in a clean, dry, frost-protected place, out of reach of children.
    • Keep it away from direct sunlight and other heat sources.
    • Store device parts and accessories together.
    • Maintain a storage temperature between +5°C and +20°C.
    • The handle can be folded in (using the quick-release levers) to save space during storage or transport. Care must be taken to ensure the connection cable is not pinched between handle parts when folding.
  • Transport:
    • Always transport the device with the handle folded in.
    • Lift the device only by the carry handle.
    • Transport the device in its normal position, preventing tilting.
    • When transporting in vehicles, the device must be secured according to applicable load securing regulations.

Safety Precautions:

The manual emphasizes several safety warnings, including the risk of electric shock due to improper handling, faulty electrical installation, or high mains voltage. Users are instructed to only connect the device to a properly installed socket with matching mains voltage, disconnect it immediately in case of a fault, and never operate it with visible signs of damage. It also warns against touching the sharp blade, reaching into the discharge chute, operating the device near other persons or animals, or when impaired. Wearing solid shoes, long trousers, and hearing protection is recommended. Users should watch out for the power cable to avoid tripping, avoid working on wet grass or inclinations above 20%, and always keep the discharge flap closed. The blade must be completely still before any maintenance or blockage removal.
