Troubleshooting
PROBLiEM POSSIBLE CAUSE CORRECTIVE ACTION
Bar and chain
running hot and
smoking.
1. Check chain tension for
overtightened condition.
2. Chain-oil tank empty.
1. Tension chain. Refer to

2. Check oil tank.
Motor runs, but
chain is not rotating.
1. Chain tension too tight.
2. Check guide bar and chain assembly.
3. Check guide bar and chain for
damage.
1. Re-tension chain. Refer to

earlier in this manual.
2. Refer to Replacing the Guide
Bar and Chain earlier in this
manual.
3. Inspect guide bar and chain for
damage.
Motor runs, chain rotates
but does not cut.
1. Dull chain.
2. Chain on backwards.
1. Sharpen chain.
2. Reverse direction of chain.
