Overview

This document is an installation manual for the Champion® Series Single Package Air Conditioners, specifically models D1EB036, 048 (Direct Drive) and D1EB060 (Belt Drive), designed for World 50 Hz applications. These units are electric/electric, air-cooled systems. The manual provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of these air conditioning units.

The units are factory-assembled cooling-only air conditioners intended for outdoor installation, either on a rooftop or a slab. They come fully assembled on rigid, easily removable base rails, with all piping, refrigerant charge, and electrical wiring factory installed and tested. The installation process primarily involves connecting electric power and ductwork.

Function Description:

The Champion® Series Single Package Air Conditioners are designed to provide cooling for various applications. They operate as self-contained units, meaning all components necessary for the cooling cycle are housed within a single cabinet. The system draws in return air from the conditioned space, cools it by passing it over an evaporator coil, and then supplies the cooled air back into the space. Simultaneously, heat absorbed from the indoor air is rejected to the outdoors via a condenser coil and fan. The units are controlled by a room thermostat, which initiates and terminates cooling cycles based on the desired temperature settings. The fan can operate continuously or cycle with the cooling demand, depending on the thermostat's settings.

Usage Features:

  • Outdoor Installation: These units are designed exclusively for outdoor use, suitable for rooftop or ground-level slab installations.
  • Self-Contained Design: Being single-package units, they simplify installation by integrating all major components (compressor, evaporator coil, condenser coil, fans, and controls) into one cabinet.
  • Ductwork Adaptability: The units are adaptable for both downflow and rear supply/return air duct openings, offering flexibility in duct configuration. Instructions are provided for converting the unit to downflow operation by repositioning duct covers.
  • Thermostat Control: The units are controlled by a standard single-stage cooling thermostat, allowing users to set and maintain desired indoor temperatures. The thermostat can also manage fan operation (continuous or auto).
  • Service Access: Multiple removable panels provide convenient access to all serviceable components, including the blower, electrical/filter section, and compressor, facilitating maintenance and repairs.
  • Filter System: A filter rack and filters are standard, essential for maintaining indoor air quality and unit efficiency. Filters must be regularly checked and kept clean.

Maintenance Features:

  • Periodic Maintenance: Routine maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity. This primarily involves checking and cleaning filters and the outdoor coil.
  • Filter Inspection and Replacement: Filters should be inspected monthly. Disposable filters must be replaced when dirty, while permanent filters should be cleaned. It is important not to replace permanent filters with disposable ones.
  • Outdoor Coil Cleaning: The outdoor coil surface and other parts of the air circuit should be kept free of dirt accumulation. Cleaning should be performed as often as necessary using a brush, vacuum cleaner attachment, or other suitable means. If water is used for cleaning, the power to the unit must be shut off beforehand to prevent electrical hazards.
  • Motor Lubrication: The indoor and outdoor fan motors are permanently lubricated, eliminating the need for periodic lubrication by the user.
  • Safety Precautions: The manual emphasizes critical safety warnings, such as shutting off all power to the unit before any maintenance procedures to prevent personal injury. It also advises caution when cleaning the coil to avoid damaging the fins and warns against obstructing the condenser air discharge outlet with overhanging structures or shrubs.
  • Owner's Approval and Instruction: After proper functioning is confirmed, the installer should secure the owner's approval and instruct them on the location of disconnect switches, thermostat operation, and temperature settings within the system's limitations.
  • Wiring Integrity: The manual stresses the importance of proper wiring, noting that all wires should be labeled prior to disconnection during servicing to avoid errors that could lead to improper and dangerous operation. Any replacement wiring must be of the specified type (105°C, 600V wire or equivalent).
