Electrical Precautions
Takethefollowingprecautionstoreducetheriskofelectricshock,reor
explosionresultinginseriousinjuryordeath.
● Highlydangerouselectricalvoltagesareusedinthissystem.Carefullyrefertothewiringdiagram
andtheseinstructionswhenwiring.Improperconnectionsandinadequategroundingcancause
seriousinjuryordeath.
● Performallelectricalworkinstrictaccordancewiththisinstallationandmaintenancemanualandall
therelevantregulatorystandards.
● Beforeservicing,shutoffandtagalldisconnectswitches.Neverassumeelectricalpoweris
disconnected.Alwaysverifywithameter.
● Onlyuseelectricalprotectionequipmentandtoolssuitedforthisinstallation.
● Insulateawiredcontrolleragainstmoistureandtemperatureextremes.
● Usespeciedcablesbetweenunits.
● Theinstalledairconditionermaynotfunctionnormallyinthefollowinginstances:
◦ Ifelectricalpowerforthenewairconditionerissuppliedfromthesametransformerasthe
externalequipment*referredtobelow.
◦ Ifthepowersupplywiringforthisexternalequipment*andthenewairconditionerunitarelocated
incloseproximitytoeachother.
externalequipment*:(Example):Alift,containercrane,rectierforelectricrailway,inverter
powerdevice,arcfurnace,electricfurnace,large-sizedinductionmotorandlarge-sized
switch.
Regardingthecasesmentionedabove,surgevoltagemaybeinductedintothepowersupply
cablesforthepackagedairconditionerduetoarapidchangeinpowerconsumptionofthedevice
andanactivationofaswitch.
Checkeldregulationsandstandardsbeforeperformingelectricalworkinordertoprotectthe
powersupplyforthenewairconditionerunit.
● CommunicationcablemustbeaminimumofAWG18(0.82mm
2
),2-Conductor,StrandedCopper.
ShieldedcablemustbeusedforapplicationsandroutinginareasofhighEMIandothersourcesof
potentiallyexcessiveelectricalnoisetoreducethepotentialforcommunicationerrors.Whenshielded
cablingisapplied,properbondingandterminationofthecableshieldisrequiredasperJohnson
Controlsguidelines.Plenumandriserratingsforcommunicationcablesmustbeconsideredper
applicationandlocalcoderequirements.
● Thepolarityoftheinputterminalsisimportant,sobesuretomatchthepolaritywhenusingcontacts
thathavepolarity.
● Useadedicatedcircuitfortheairconditionerattheunit’sratedvoltage.
● Highlydangerouselectricalvoltagesareusedinthissystem.Carefullyrefertothewiringdiagramand
theseinstructionswhenwiring.Improperconnectionsandinadequategroundingcancauseserious
injuryordeath.
● Beforeinstallingthecontrollerorremotedevices,ensurethattheindoorandoutdoorunitoperation
hasbeenstopped.Further,besuretowaitatleastveminutesbeforeturningoffthemainpower
switchtotheindoororoutdoorunits.Otherwise,waterleakageorelectricalbreakdownmayresult.
● DonotopentheservicecoveroraccesspaneltotheindoororoutdoorunitswithoutturningOFFthe
mainpowersupply.Beforeconnectingorservicingthecontrollerorcablestoindoororoutdoorunits,
shutoffandtagalldisconnectswitches.Neverassumeelectricalpowerisdisconnected.Alwaysverify
withameter.
● ThisequipmentcanbeinstalledwithaGroundFaultCircuitBreaker(GFCI),whichisarecognized
measureforaddedprotectiontoaproperlygroundedunit.Installappropriatesizedbreakers/fuses
/overcurrentprotectionswitches,andwiringinaccordancewithlocal,stateandNECcodesand
requirements.Theequipmentinstallerisresponsibleforunderstandingandabidingbyapplicable
codesandrequirements.
