Overview

This document is a user manual for a Zanussi Cooker, models ZCE560, ZCV561, and ZCV563. It provides comprehensive information on the appliance's functions, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Zanussi Cooker is designed for indoor domestic household use for cooking food. It features a hob, a grill, a top oven (available on ZCV563DW/DN/DX models), and a main oven.

Hob: The hob is controlled by a knob with seven positions, where "0" is off and positions 1-6 indicate different heat settings:

  • Position 1: Heat maintenance.
  • Positions 2-3: Low-temperature heating.
  • Positions 4-6: Cooking, frying, and boiling. The manual specifies both ceramic and solid hob models. Ceramic hob models (ZCV561DW/DX, ZCV563DW/DX/DN) feature hot hob indicators.

Grill: The grill function is available in the top oven compartment. For ZCV563DW/DX/DN models, the grill offers multiple power settings:

  • Full grill area at 1/4 power.
  • Centre grill area at full power.
  • Full grill area at full power. The top oven door can be kept either open or closed during grilling. The grill is suitable for various foods, with recommended cooking times provided in a chart.

Top Oven (ZCV563DW/DN/DX): This is the smaller of the two ovens, designed for cooking smaller quantities of food, such as fruitcakes, sweets, savory flans, or quiche. It also functions as a warming compartment for dishes. The top oven features a "Top and Bottom Heating Function" and an indicator neon that glows when the oven is on.

Main Oven: The main oven is a fan oven, particularly suitable for cooking larger quantities of food. It quickly reaches temperature, often negating the need for preheating, though preheating is recommended for high-temperature recipes or frozen/chilled ready meals. Fan oven cooking generally requires lower temperatures than conventional cooking. It supports batch baking evenly on both shelf levels. The main oven also includes a "Defrost Function" and a "Slow Cook Function."

  • Defrost Function: Defrosts most foods faster than conventional methods, suitable for delicate frozen foods like gateaux, cakes, and pastries. It can thaw small fish fillets, prawns, minced meat, liver, chops, and steaks in 1-2 hours, and a 1kg/2lb chicken in approximately 5 hours.
  • Slow Cook Function: Provides a very low heat, ideal for soups, stews, and casseroles, making tougher cuts of meat tender. Food should be cooked at 180-190°C for 30 minutes before switching to the slow cook setting.

Electronic Timer (ZCV563DW/DN/DX): This timer allows users to set the time of day, a countdown, a desired cooking period, and a finish time for the main oven.

  • Time of Day: Set by pressing (+) and (-) keys simultaneously when "A" and "0:00" are flashing.
  • Countdown: Can be used as a time setup and alarm.
  • Desired Cooking Period: Sets the duration of cooking (0-10 hours). "A" and "LSI" symbols illuminate when set.
  • Finish Time: Adjusts the end time of the cooking period. "End" indicator lamp flashes when setting.

Usage Features

  • Oven Furniture: Supplied with grill pan, grill pan grid, and shelves. Shelves are fitted with straight rods uppermost and forms towards the back of the oven.
  • Cookware Recommendations: Only use saucepans with flat bases and close-fitting lids, approximately the same size as the cooking area. Avoid thin, dented, or distorted saucepans. Woks with flat-bottomed bases are acceptable.
  • Grilling Tips: Place food on the grid in the grill pan for air circulation. Adjust grid and grill pan runner position for different food thicknesses. Preheat grill on full setting for a few minutes before sealing.
  • Top Oven Tips: Arrange shelves before switching on. Maintain at least 2.5 cm (1”) between food and element. Place tins/trays centrally on the shelf. Use baking trays to prevent spillage.
  • Main Oven Tips: For multiple dishes, place centrally on different shelves for free heat circulation. For batch baking, use evenly spaced shelf positions.
  • Defrosting Tips: Place frozen food in a single layer and turn halfway through. Cook thoroughly immediately after thawing. Do not leave defrosted food at room temperature.
  • Slow Cook Tips: Cover all foods to prevent drying out; uncover for the last half hour for golden brown finish.

Maintenance Features

  • General Cleaning: Always turn off and unplug the appliance before cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaners, sharp metal scrapers, or steam cleaners.
  • Outside Cleaning: Use a soft cloth and hot soapy water. Avoid abrasive cream cleaners, wire wool pads, or scourers on painted/printed finishes. Wipe stainless steel finishes immediately. Do not remove control knobs.
  • Solid Hob Cleaning (ZCE560DW): Clean after each use with lukewarm water and mild detergent. Periodically use a mild scouring agent. Avoid scouring pads or sharp objects.
  • Ceramic Hob Cleaning (ZCV561DW/DX, ZCV563DW/DX/DN): Ensure ceramic glass is cool. Use a hob-cleaning product daily. Apply a small amount, rub vigorously with a paper towel or plastic pad, then wipe residues and polish dry. For stubborn marks, use cream cleaner or baking soda with a non-stick saucepan pad.
  • Burnt-on Foodstuff (Ceramic Hob): Use a Ceramic Hob Scraper at a 30° angle, then clean with hob cleaner or cream cleaner.
  • Discolourations/White/Silver Marks (Ceramic Hob): Can often be removed with a paste of one part water to three parts Cream of Tarter, left overnight.
  • Grill/Oven Furniture Cleaning: Removable parts (except grill pan handle) can be washed in a dishwasher. Grill pan, grid, and oven shelves can be cleaned with a soap-impregnated steel wool pad, soaking first in hot soapy water.
  • Inside Oven/Grill Cleaning: Vitreous enamel compartments can be cleaned with normal oven cleaners, following manufacturer instructions and rinsing well. Avoid contact with elements, door seal, or painted finishes.
  • Door Glass Cleaning: Use hot soapy water or hob cleaner (not on stainless steel or painted surfaces). Rinse and dry thoroughly. If glass is chipped or scratched, it must be replaced by an authorized service centre.
  • Light Bulb Replacement: Disconnect power. Remove shelves. Turn glass cover left to remove. Unscrew bulb left to remove. Fit new bulb, replace cover, and shelves. Reset power and time of day.
