This document is a user manual for a Zanussi cooker, providing comprehensive instructions for its installation, safe use, maintenance, and troubleshooting. The cooker features both a hob and two ovens (top and main), designed for household cooking purposes.
Function Description
The cooker is equipped with a gas hob and two gas ovens. The hob features multiple burners of varying sizes: Multi Crown, Semi-rapid, and Auxiliary burners, each designed for different cooking needs. The burners are ignited using a spark generator, activated by pushing down and turning the corresponding knob. A thermocouple safety device is integrated into each burner, which interrupts the gas supply if the flame accidentally goes out. The hob also includes a lid safety device that cuts off the gas supply to the hob when the lid is closed.
The top oven is smaller and has three shelf positions, suitable for cooking smaller quantities of food, such as fruitcakes, sweets, savoury flans, or quiche. It includes a Full Grill function for grilling flat food and toasting bread. The main oven is larger and particularly suitable for cooking larger quantities of food. Both ovens have heat settings ranging from minimum temperature to maximum, controlled by dedicated knobs. Oven burners are also ignited by pushing and turning a knob, with a thermocouple safety device to prevent gas leaks if the flame extinguishes. A cooling fan operates automatically when the oven is in use to keep surfaces cool and may continue to run after the oven is turned off.
The cooker also features a display with a minute minder indicator, time display, and time of day indicator. Users can set the time and use the minute minder for timed cooking.
Usage Features
For hob use, it is crucial to always light the burner before placing cookware on it. Cookware should be stable, have the correct shape and diameter for the burner, and be placed centrally to ensure maximum stability and efficient gas consumption. The manual advises against using unstable or damaged pots and warns to keep pot handles away from the front edge of the cooktop. When turning off a burner, the knob should be set to the off position (0). The lid should not be used as a cut-off device for the burners.
For oven use, preheating the empty appliance before first use is recommended. The manual provides guidelines for baking and roasting, including recommended preheating times, heat settings, cooking times, and shelf positions for various dishes like cakes, pies, roasts, and pizzas. It emphasizes using heat-resistant ovenware, roasting lean meat covered, and adding water to the tray to prevent fat from burning. For grilling, the oven door must be closed, and the maximum temperature setting should be used. The deep pan should be set to the first shelf position to collect fat.
Accessories include a wire shelf for cookware, cake tins, and roasts, and a grill-/roasting pan for baking, roasting, or collecting fat. A trivet is provided for roasting larger pieces of meat or poultry and should be used with the grill-/roasting pan. All accessories have small indentations and a high rim to increase safety and prevent cookware from slipping.
Maintenance Features
Regular cleaning is essential for both the hob and ovens. The hob should be cleaned after each use with a moist cloth and a non-abrasive detergent. Immediate removal of melted plastic, sugar, or food with sugar is advised to prevent damage. Limescale rings, water rings, fat stains, and metallic discoloration should be removed once the hob is cool. The ceramic ignition candle and metal electrode of the spark plug should be kept clean to ensure proper lighting. Pan supports are not dishwasher safe and must be washed by hand. When replacing pan supports, care must be taken to prevent damage to the hob top.
For oven maintenance, the manual instructs users to clean the oven and accessories before first use. The oven interior should be cleaned after each use to prevent fat and food accumulation, which can cause fire. A soft cloth with warm water and a mild cleaning agent is recommended for cleaning the front of the oven and metal surfaces. Stubborn stains can be cleaned with a special oven cleaner, but aggressive agents, sharp-edged objects, or dishwashers should be avoided for nonstick accessories. The moisture from the cavity should be wiped dry after each use to prevent corrosion.
The oven features catalytic enamel walls, which are self-cleaning. To support this process, the empty oven should be heated regularly to maximum temperature for one hour, or to 250°C for one hour. All accessories must be removed before activating catalytic cleaning. The oven floor should be cleaned with warm water and washing-up liquid.
Instructions are also provided for removing and cleaning the door glasses for both the top and main ovens, as well as replacing the oven lamp. Before any maintenance, the appliance should be deactivated and disconnected from the power supply. The manual also includes troubleshooting tips for common issues like the appliance not activating, burners not working, or the flame extinguishing.
