Questions and Answers

Overview

This document serves as a user manual for a Zanussi cooker, providing essential information for its safe installation, operation, and maintenance. The cooker is designed for household use and is suitable for specific markets, namely Great Britain (GB) and Ireland (IE).

Function Description

The Zanussi cooker features both a hob and an oven, allowing for a variety of cooking methods. The hob is equipped with multiple gas burners of different sizes: one rapid, two semi-rapid, and one auxiliary burner. These burners are controlled by individual knobs located on the control panel, which also includes a display for time and other functions. The cooker has two ovens: a top oven and a main oven. The top oven is smaller, with three shelf positions, ideal for cooking smaller quantities of food like fruitcakes, sweets, savoury flans, or quiche. The main oven is larger and suitable for cooking bigger quantities. Both ovens offer conventional cooking and grilling functions.

Usage Features

Hob Operation: To ignite a hob burner, turn its knob to the maximum position and push it down. A spark generator will activate automatically. Hold the knob down for up to 10 seconds to allow the thermocouple to warm up and ensure gas supply. Once the flame is regular, adjust it to the desired intensity. If the burner doesn't light after 15 seconds, release the knob, turn it off, and try again after at least one minute. In case of a power outage, burners can be ignited manually using a flame source while pushing down the knob. A lid safety device is integrated, which cuts off the gas supply to the hob burners when the lid is closed. Always turn the burner knob to the off position to extinguish the flame; do not use the lid as a cut-off device. Cookware should be stable, with a correct shape and diameter, and placed centrally on the burner for maximum stability and lower gas consumption. Pot handles should not extend beyond the front edge of the cooktop.

Oven Operation: Before operating the oven, the time must be set. The display will flash until the time is configured using the plus and minus buttons. The oven offers various heat settings for conventional cooking and a grilling function. To ignite an oven or grill burner, open the oven door, push the corresponding knob, and turn it to the desired setting. Hold the knob down for up to 15 seconds to allow the thermocouple to warm up. If the burner doesn't light, release the knob, turn it off, and try again after at least one minute. The oven has a safety device that stops the gas flow if the flame goes out. When the oven is active, the lid must be kept open to prevent overheating. The top oven burner cannot be operated when the grill is active. A cooling fan operates automatically to keep oven surfaces cool during and after use.

Accessories: The cooker comes with a wire shelf, a grill/roasting pan, and a trivet. The wire shelf and deep pan can be inserted into the guide bars at various shelf positions in both ovens. The trivet can be used with the deep pan for roasting larger pieces of meat or poultry (supports pointing up) or for grilling flat dishes and toasting (supports pointing down). The flame protection on the shelf must point up and is recommended for specific shelf positions in both ovens.

Cooking Guidelines: The manual provides detailed tables with recommended heat settings and cooking times for various foods in both the top and main ovens, including biscuits, cakes, pastries, meat pies, casseroles, and roasted items. It also offers tips for baking and roasting, such as preheating the oven, adjusting temperatures, and using appropriate ovenware. For grilling, it is advised to always grill with the oven door open and at the maximum temperature setting, placing the deep pan with trivet on the second or third shelf position.

Maintenance Features

General Care and Cleaning: Regular cleaning of the hob and oven is crucial to prevent the deterioration of surface materials and reduce the risk of fire from food remnants. After each use, the hob should be cleaned with a moist soft cloth and a non-abrasive detergent. Stainless steel parts should be washed with water and dried with a soft cloth. Stubborn stains can be removed with a paste cleaner. The oven cavity and door should be wiped dry after each use to prevent corrosion from condensation.

Specific Cleaning Instructions:

  • Hob: Immediately remove melted plastic, sugar, and food with sugar to prevent damage. Remove limescale rings, water rings, fat stains, and metallic discoloration when the hob is cool.
  • Pan Supports: These are not dishwasher-safe and must be washed by hand. Remove them for easier hob cleaning and ensure they are correctly positioned with arms aligned to the burner centre when replaced.
  • Spark Plug: Keep the ceramic ignition candle and metal electrode clean to prevent difficult lighting. Ensure burner crown holes are not obstructed.
  • Oven: Clean the oven front with warm water and a mild cleaning agent. For metal surfaces, use a dedicated cleaning agent. Clean all accessories after each use. Do not use aggressive agents, sharp-edged objects, or a dishwasher for nonstick accessories.
  • Catalytic Cleaning (Main Oven): The main oven walls have a self-cleaning catalytic coating that absorbs fat. Do not clean these surfaces with oven sprays, abrasive cleaners, or soap, as this will damage them. To support the self-cleaning process, heat the empty oven regularly.
  • Oven Door Glasses: Instructions are provided for removing and cleaning the inner glass panels of both the top and main oven doors. The process involves releasing clip seals and carefully removing the trim and glass panels.
  • Oven Lamp Replacement: To replace the oven lamp, turn off the oven, disconnect it from the mains, and wait for it to cool down. Place a cloth on the cavity bottom, then turn the lamp glass cover counterclockwise to remove it. Replace the lamp with a suitable 300°C heat-resistant oven lamp of the same type, then reinstall the glass cover.

Troubleshooting: The manual includes a troubleshooting section to address common issues such as the appliance not activating, burners not working, flame irregularities, oven not heating, or display errors. It provides possible causes and remedies, often directing users to check connections, settings, or component placement, or to contact an Authorized Service Centre for more complex problems.
