VLANMapping,namelyNtoOneVLANmapping,implementstheVLANconvergence
functionbyestablishingmappingbetweencustomerVLANandserviceproviderVLANby
replacingtheouterVLANtagsinthedataframes.Thisway,customerservicescanbe
transmittedaccordingtooperator’snetworkplanning.
DuetothelimitedVLANresource,theVLANsofserviceprovidernetworkandcustomer
networkareplannedseparately.The“customerVLAN”mentionedinthischapterrefersto
CVLANusedincustomernetwork,whilethe“serviceproviderVLAN”istheSVLANused
inserviceprovider’snetwork.
Differentservicesofhomeusers(Internet,IPTV,VoIP)aregenerallytransferredthrough
differentVLANsintheaccessnetworksofMAN,asshowninFigure4-47.Asthereare
limitedVLANsinoperator’snetwork,theVLANconvergencefunctionneedstobefullledin
theswitchesinaccesslayertotransmitthesameservice,whichistransferredbydifferent
usersindifferentVLANs,throughoneVLAN.
