Overview

The Scotch Advanced Tape Glider is a handheld adhesive applicator designed for applying adhesive while simultaneously removing and rewinding the liner. It is compatible with Scotch® Advanced Tape Glider Refill Rolls, available in two main specifications: Acid Free - 1/4 inch x 36 yd and General Purpose - 1/2 inch x 36 yd.

Function Description

The primary function of the Scotch Advanced Tape Glider is to facilitate the quick and clean application of adhesive tape. It operates by dispensing adhesive tape from a supply roll, applying the adhesive to a surface, and then automatically rewinding the spent liner onto a separate rewind wheel. This integrated process ensures a smooth application and keeps the workspace tidy by managing the liner waste internally. The device is designed for ease of use, allowing for one-handed operation once the tape is loaded and threaded.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Compatible Tape Types: Scotch® Advanced Tape Glider Refill Rolls.
  • Tape Dimensions:
    • Acid Free: 1/4 inch x 36 yd
    • General Purpose: 1/2 inch x 36 yd
  • Operation: Manual, trigger-activated adhesive dispensing with automatic liner rewinding.
  • Construction: Features a durable housing with various internal components for tape handling, including rollers, wheels, and a trigger mechanism.
  • Maintenance: Requires periodic lubrication of shafts and cleaning of excess tape.

Usage Features

The Scotch Advanced Tape Glider is designed with several features to enhance its usability:

Tape Loading and Threading

  1. Opening the Cover: To begin, press latch "A" and lift the cover to expose the internal components.
  2. Removing Rewind Cover: Hold the rewind wheel "B" and rotate the diamond-shaped tape rewind cover "C" counterclockwise, then lift it up to remove it.
  3. Placing the Tape Roll: Position the tape roll with the liner tab at the bottom, pointing toward roller "D". Place the tape roll onto the tape wheel and gently push down. Rotate it back and forth until "E" locks into place.
  4. Threading the Leader: Press and hold the trigger. Thread the plaid leader over the ribbed roller "F", under the smooth roller "G", and over the tape roll to the rewind wheel hub. Follow the arrows indicated in the applicator. Stop when the plaid leader reaches the back rewind wheel and thread it through the slots in a "w" pattern. Continue pressing the trigger and rotate the rewind wheel clockwise to bring the adhesive forward to the front roller.
  5. Replacing Covers: Once threaded, replace the tape rewind cover and close the main cover.
  6. Breaking Adhesive: Rub the adhesive back and forth on the front roller "G" with your thumb until the adhesive breaks, ensuring the liner remains intact.

Application Process

  1. Starting Application: Place the front roller "H" on the desired surface, press the trigger, and pull the glider toward you to apply the adhesive.
  2. Ending Application: To stop applying, keep the roller on the surface, release the trigger, and continue to pull the glider toward you to break the tape at point "I".

Liner Removal

  1. Removing Rewound Liner: To remove the rewound liner, rotate and remove the diamond-shaped tape rewind cover "J". Lift out the liner.
  2. Removing Tape Core: To remove the tape core, push hook "K" and then remove the tape core.

Re-Loading in the Middle of the Roll

If you need to thread a partially used tape roll, first remove approximately 10 inches of adhesive from the tape liner. Then, proceed with the standard loading instructions.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the Scotch Advanced Tape Glider:

  • Lubrication: All shafts within the device should be periodically lubricated with white petroleum jelly to ensure smooth operation of moving parts.
  • Cleaning: The glider should be disassembled as required to remove any excess tape. A solution of 50/50 isopropyl alcohol and water can be used for cleaning. It is important to follow the solvent manufacturer's precautions and directions for use when handling solvents.
