LOW BATTERY INDICATOR
The battery should be replaced when the low battery
indicator ashes or shade and sensitivity LEDs do not ash
when the buttons are pushed.
NOTE!
The welding lter may not go to dark position if the sensors
are blocked or the welding arc is totally shielded.
NOTE!
Flashing light sources (e.g. safety strobe lights) can
trigger the welding lter making it ash when no welding is
occurring. This interference can occur from long distances
and/or from reected light. Welding areas must be shielded
from such interference.
CAUTION!
Should the Speedglas SL welding shield fail to switch
to the dark state upon ignition of an arc, stop welding
immediately and inspect the welding lter as described in
these instructions. Continued use of the welding lter that
fails to switch to the dark state may cause temporary vision
loss. If the problem cannot be identied and corrected, do
not use the welding lter, contact your supervisor, distributor
or 3M for assistance.
MAINTENANCE
REPLACEMENT OF OUTER PROTECTION
PLATE.
Remove the used outer protection plate and place the new
outer protection plate on the welding shield as indicated in
gures C:1–C:2.
NOTE!
Make sure that the protection plate is correctly snapped in
on all four columns. See gure C:3.
REPLACEMENT OF INNER PROTECTION
PLATE.
The used inner protection plate is removed as illustrated
in gure D:1. The new inner protection plate should be
inserted after the protective lm is removed as illustrated
in gure D:2. Locate one of the sides by tting the corners
according to gure D:3. Bend the middle part and t the
other two corners. Make sure that the inner protection plate
is mounted correctly as illustrated in gure D:3.
REPLACEMENT OF WELDING FILTER.
The welding lter can be removed and replaced according
to gure C:1 and E:1.
REPLACEMENT OF HEADBAND.
The headband can be replaced according to figure F:1–F:2.
REPLACEMENT OF BATTERY.
The welding lter must be removed to acess the battery
compartment. Take out the battery holder (use a small
screwdriver if necessary).
Remove the used batteries and dispose of them according
to local regulations.
Insert new batteries in the battery holder according to gure
G:1. Slide the battery holder into the welding lter until it
snaps in position.
TEMPERATURE RANGE
The recommended operating temperature range for the
welding lter is -5°C to +55°C. Store in a clean and dry
environment, temperature range -30°C to +70°C.
INSPECTION
Carefully inspect the complete Speedglas SL welding shield
assembly frequently and replace worn or damaged parts.
Cracked, pitted or scratched lter glass or protection
plates reduce vision and can seriously impair protection.
Replace necessary parts immediately with new authentic
Speedglas brand parts to avoid damage to the eye and
face. The sensors on the welding lter must be kept clean
and uncovered at all times for correct function.
NOTE!
To check that the electronics and buttons are working, press
the buttons and the LEDs will ash.
CLEANING
Clean the shield with a mild detergent and lukewarm water.
Do not use solvents. Clean the welding lter with a clean
lint-free tissue or cloth. Do not immerse in water.
CAUTION!
Use this welding shield ONLY for face and eye protection
against harmful radiation, sparks and spatter from arc
welding and cutting. The protection plates are strong but
not unbreakable. This welding shield protects against high
speed particles according to marking. See gure H:1.
The welding shield is heat resistant and approved against
standard requirements for ammability but can catch re or
melt in contact with open ame or very hot surfaces. Keep
the helmet clean to minimise this risk.
The manufacturer is not responsible for any modications to
the welding lter or use with other welding shields than the
Speedglas SL welding shield. Protection may be seriously
impaired if unsuitable modications are made.
Susceptible persons should be aware that materials that
come into contact with skin may cause allergic reactions.
Wearers of ophthalmic spectacles should be aware that in
the case of severe impact hazards the deformation of the
shield might cause the inside of the shield to come into
contact with the spectacles creating a hazard for the wearer.
In all welding processes the arc should only be viewed with
the correct dark shade. See gure page 64.
