The heat pump or storage tank might be undersized for your needs, in which case you could increase the size of the storage tank or install a gas or electric heater to compensate. Also, ensure the heat pump is properly connected to the storage tank by referring to the field piping diagrams. Finally, if the unit's cooling coil is overcooling the space, consider using backup water heating, ducting cool air to another space, or ducting warmer air from another space to the installed room.

If the room temperature is over 95°F, keep the heat pump off until the temperature is within the operating range. Also, check that the main gas supply is on and turn on the main gas shutoff valve if necessary. Finally, a thermocouple malfunction could be the cause, requiring replacement of the pilot assembly and/or thermocouple.

  A leaking T&P valve in your A.O. Smith water heater can occur due to thermal expansion in a closed water system. Install a thermal expansion tank to resolve this issue and DO NOT plug the T&P valve. It can also happen due to an improperly seated valve. Check the relief valve for proper operation, and again, DO NOT plug the T&P valve.

Finally, a high-temperature limit switch may have been activated, in which case you should contact a service technician.
